Twenty-One

It's almost sunrise when the roar of their engines coming toward the house catches my attention. I take the medical supplies I prepared a couple of hours ago and head out to help out. They are all in need of getting stitched up.

I know Danica knows they're here, but she doesn't bother to come out and it angers me. Once we were in the clear. I listen to them talk about those who need to be replaced. I put the headphones back on and turn the volume up to just listen to the angry roar of the music. 

The stale smell of fear and adrenaline lingers in the air even after everyone goes home. I can't stop rubbing my arms or moving around. The music helps keep me distracted but it doesn't completely frown out the hum.
