Chapter 28 Why Haven't You Contributed Anything?

A dull pain struck Amelia in the heart. She paused for a moment before heading back up the stairs.

"Madam, what are you doing here? Are you thirsty?" A maid who had just come out of the kitchen saw her and called out. Amelia stopped and looked downstairs to see Ember approaching with a cold smile.

"Since you're not asleep yet, why don't we have a little chat?" she said.

Caught in the act of eavesdropping, Amelia felt flustered.

As she followed Ember, Liam's gaze was fixed on her. It made her avoid eye contact with him. She didn't understand why she feared him so much, especially since she hadn't done anything wrong.

"Liam, it's been a while since you've visited. Why don't you spend some time with your father in the study room and play a game of chess?"

This seemed like a ploy to separate Amelia from Liam so that Ember could have a private conversation with Amelia.
