Chapter 3

Mark’s POV

I fixed my pants and buckled my belt up in the next second. My heart was starting to race once again, but this time, it was out of fear.

“It’s a bomb.” He replied quietly— way too calmly, as he placed the supposedly deadly equipment on the floor and pulled out another box from beneath the bed.

My eyes widened in horror and it took me a few seconds before I could begin to breathe again.

I watched as he shook the box for a few seconds before leaving it on the floor and hurrying towards the bathroom, disappearing into it.

I stared down at the said bomb with my heart in my throat, my hands starting to sweat almost immediately. I didn’t know what a bomb was supposed to look like since I’ve never seen one before, but from the number of times I’ve read about it, I was kind of expecting it to look like something extremely deadly or dangerous— and not this small shaped equipment which I just noticed had tiny numbers in blinking red colors on the middle of it, which kept changing as each second went by.

It was ticking as well.

I was already making my way towards the entrance of the motel room on instinct, to let myself out as quietly as I could.

Whatever it was that this Christ dude has going on in his life, I wouldn’t be dragged into it.

I said to myself as I placed my hand on the door and pulled, only to realize that it was locked. Whirling around nervously to demand him to get me his keys for me to let myself out and pretend like none of these ever happened, I stopped dead in my tracks as I watched him load guns in a black bag which he zipped up in the next second and slung it over his shoulder. A few guns were still lying on the bed and they disappeared in different parts of his pants almost immediately.

“Your keys, please? Let me let myself out of here quietly and pretend like none of these ever happened.” I started to say, making sure to pick my words out carefully unlike how I had been speaking to him before when I didn’t know he had a shit load of weapons on him.

“What do you mean? If you go out now, you’re going to get yourself killed in a few seconds.” He informed me quietly as he crouched beside the bomb and picked it up carefully while cradling the brown box in his left hand.

“What do you mean by ‘I am going to get myself killed? I didn’t do a damn thing, I just want to go on my damn way, please.” I pressed on desperately, my heart thumping hard against my ribs, it was getting harder to get words out my mouth as the second passed.

“Because you’ve been spotted with me. Now come with me and please do as I say.” He said as he unlocked the door with a key and made his way out. I hesitated for a few seconds before flying out of the room, not knowing what to think and what to make of all what just happened as I quickly followed Chris’s footsteps.

Jesus.

What the hell was happening?

That wasn’t even any of my business, I just want to go on my way, because the thought of me dying now by getting shot and meeting up with God was sending my stomach into tight knots, making me feel nauseous and extremely dizzy, but I didn’t dare stop as I followed Chris into the dark, busy streets.

What if I end up dying tonight? What would I tell God? That I went to get my dick sucked by a man even though I have a girlfriend… which was so many sins in one sentence.

I’m so doomed.

I thought fearfully as I followed Chris as fast as I could, taking large footsteps along with him before finally coming to a stop and heaving a deep breath to stop myself from retching in disgust at myself.

I watched as Chris glanced around countless times, a few people were passing by but barely paid us any attention. He placed the bomb in the middle of the road and glanced around from side to side again before taking a few steps away from the bomb and screaming to my horror.

“EVERYONE THERE IS A BOMB HERE, PLEASE RUN FOR YOUR LIVES TO AVOID EXPLODING WITH IT IN A FEW SECONDS.”

“Are you crazy??” I screamed at him as I took in the few cars that were parked around the particular spot we were in a few seconds ago. If the bomb ends up blowing up, a lot of things are going to end up exploding along with it.

“People would end up blowing up with that thing… innocent people!” I spat out at him unbelievably as I stared at him confusingly. Surely he wouldn’t want to harm a bunch of innocent people all because of his stupid shit.

“This is the best I could do.” He screamed at me through the screams of the people who had heard his screams and were already scattering in all directions.

Fuck.

I hope nothing happens to them.

Chris headed further and further away from the spot he had placed the bomb in while glancing around the whole area in a few seconds, his gaze sharp and focused as fuck, which led me to start connecting a few dots.

Like the time he had quickly glanced up from his phone to check the crowd with those sharp gaze of his…

How he was in a cheap motel when he looked like a millionaire…

Christ, I’m so dumb, fuck.

Chris suddenly stopped and grabbed my bicep before pulling me into a dark incomplete building that looked so much like the constructions of an unfinished warehouse.

My heartbeat slowed down painfully and for a moment, I feared he was going to shoot me right in that very moment since I didn’t need anyone to inform me that I already knew that Chris was involved in something dirty- and risky- and fuck.

“Can I go now?” I demanded of him, hoping and praying he wouldn’t sense how afraid of him I was at that moment.

“Sure.” He murmured as he crouched down and whipped out a gun from his pants before uncorking it— at least that was what it looked like what he did in a second, before continuing quietly when I was already making my way towards the entrance of the warehouse, silently praying I don’t get shot before I even make my way to the entrance of the warehouse.

“Just don’t blame me for your death when you end up dying and arrive in hell.”

I stopped dead in my tracks and turned back around slowly, a slow shiver of fear slid down my spine as I wring my hands together, glancing at the entrance of the warehouse for a second before averting my gaze back to Chris’s crouched form in the next second.

“W… what?” I echoed, my voice slightly trembling.

Fucking fuck.

“GET AWAY FROM THERE!” Chris screamed and I jumped away instinctively, fear propelling me into landing on the floor behind him just as gunshot sounds started to go off around us loudly. I slapped my hand over my mouth to stop the nervous scream that was about to slip out as I watched as tiny buttons which I didn’t need anyone to tell me were bullets, hit the spot I was standing in a second ago in waves, like a direct spray of rain.

What the heck have I gotten myself into?

I didn’t even notice when Chris dumped his first gun and got out his second one — and then the third one on him, before pushing his bag towards me and asking me to hand him a gun like it was a normal thing to ask of me— who has never seen a real gun before, talk less of touching one.

With shaking fingers, I unzipped his bag and froze as my hand touched the butt of one of the many guns in the bag, the cold metal seeping into my palm, sending another ten seconds feeling of pure dread into my blood as if I wasn’t already scared enough from all what was currently having around me.

“C’mon man, hand me a fucking gun!” Chris snapped out angrily and I jumped in fright, causing the bag to fall over, spilling half of the guns on the ground and over my feet. I wanted to scream and jump in fright as I imagined one of the guns automatically going off against my leg — or Incase I mistakenly stepped on one of them, and it went off, directly hitting my dick.

I am so fucked.

“Shit! You motherfucker!” Chris cursed loudly through clenched teeth and I quickly picked up a gun and pushed it towards him with trembling hands, my eyes widening and a strangled gasp slipped out of my lips as I realized the reason for him cursing angrily a second ago.

He got shot— in his right arm, and it was bleeding fast, soaking his sleeve up immediately.

“Fuck, Christ.” I cried out dejectedly as I crouched down beside and handed him the gun and he collected it with his left hand after a few seconds. The shooting had finally stopped, which made me drag in the first slow breath since the start of the shooting spree.

“Pack the guns up, we don’t have any fucking time,” Chris said as he got to his feet and picked up the brown box in his left hand while he lightly held onto the gun with his wounded right hand. I didn’t waste any time and carefully and gingerly picked the guns up, shoving them into the bag and zipping the bag up immediately.

I watched as Chris’s hand bleed more and more, as I swung the bag over my shoulder, knowing he wouldn’t be able to carry it with his shoulder anymore.

“I can’t shoot well with my left hand, which means we’re almost as good as dead at the moment.” Chris gritted out as we slowly walked out of the warehouse, our shoes crunching loudly over hundreds of bullets.

What the fuck did you do to result in this amount of people being after your life, Chris?

I questioned him silently as I watched him glance around the streets carefully from side to side before cursing, quieting beneath his breath, and suddenly pushing me behind a big truck with a sharp nudge of his left elbow, making me stumble for a moment.

“What was that for?” I demanded but immediately slapped my mouth shut when I heard the first bullet hit the metal truck with a loud, screeching sound, right before a second and a third shot followed — what came next was a rain of bullets all hitting the truck loudly at the same time.

Chris was on his stomach in the next second, a small painful cry slipping out of his lips when his wounded arm jarred against the ground. He started shooting beneath the truck at the men doing the shootings from the other side of the truck while I just stood there with a gun-filled bag slung over my shoulders, totally unable to do anything with it.

This wasn’t like the movies, this was fucking reality and I might end up shooting myself in the face, or worse — end up mistakenly shooting Chris, if I tried using a gun in a situation like this, for the first time.

The ground suddenly vibrated as a loud, ear-shattering sound went off, leaving my mouth hanging open and my heart jumping into my mouth in fright.

My ears rang loudly for long seconds as I struggled to get a firm grip on my surroundings. The ground still rumbled and the air smelled of sulfur. Like I just stepped into hell.

My mind grasped onto the tiny thread of thoughts that made sense now, wasn't that the bomb that Chris and I abandoned?

What the fuck did I unknowingly get myself involved in?

FUCK.
