ELLA~
Oh my God! “What the hell, Janice?” I jerked awake as a bucket of ice-cold water hit my face with such force that it almost drowned me in my sleep. I struggled to breathe, gasping like a fish out of water.
This freaking little brat just threw a whole damn bucket of ice-cold water on me. She is my younger sister Janice, a 17-year-old teen who goes to Columbia University. I love her a lot but when it comes to waking up early in the morning, I’m no less than an angry wolf on bloodlust.
“What? Don’t yell at me. I was trying to wake you up for the last 30 minutes.” Janice snapped back.
I glared at her with all the intensity I could muster as she rolled her eyes at me. Internally, I was thinking of ways to torture her. Getting irritated as I couldn’t come up with a single way to avenge my peaceful sleep, I asked “Why did you wake me up?” She simply smiled and sprawled beside me, cooing “Just look at the time.”
My brows furrowed in confusion, wondering what she meant by that. I turned my gaze to meet the alarm clock resting on the bedside table. I was annoyed, sleepy and hungry all at once and I just wanted to go back to dreamland. My eyes widened in horror as I stared at the clock. “Oh no! Janice, I’m late for my appointment! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?”I shrieked, jumping out of the bed.
I limped running to the bathroom, bumping into everything in my way. Recently, I got selected for the translator position at the embassy. And I was supposed to be there for the paperwork, document submission, medical checkup and all that kind of official crap. I quickly stripped off my clothes and completed my daily routine as fast as possible.
As I washed the soap off my body, I heard Janice shouting from the other side, giggling like a maniac in between. “Like I said, I tried but you didn’t budge, not even a little, you snail.” I groaned at the stupid nickname she gave me a few years back, just because I do things at my own pace. I don’t understand what everyone’s problem is.
“Shut up, you toddler, just be ready for your turn.” I yelled back, while she must have been making faces at her own nickname. What? It’s a give and take relationship. ‘I won’t spare anyone messing with me.’ I smirked evilly at the thought. I heard the sound of the door opening and closing with a thud as she left my room. “Poor baby.” I groaned at her overacting.
I stepped out of the bathroom and changed into a pair of grey dress pants and a crisp white shirt with a smooth texture. I was ready for the meeting. ‘You are going to rock this, Ella!’ I gave myself a pep talk, feeling confident and determined.
Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, making me feel giddy and nervous at the same time. I couldn’t mess this up, it was my only chance to prove myself. I was super excited for this opportunity, because it meant that I could finally be independent and that feeling was indescribable.
The euphoria was on another level. Since today wasn’t my joining date, I could go for less formal clothes, but not too tight as I didn’t want to make a bad impression on the first meeting. So, I completed my outfit with black heels and my cute little side bag that I adored. It was my baby, mom had gifted it to me a few days ago. I dashed out of my room and ran downstairs.
I saw mom standing at the bottom of the staircase, trying to put on an angry face (which she was failing miserably) so that I would eat my breakfast before leaving but nothing was going to stop me now. Because, thanks to me, I was freaking late. I ran past her towards the front door. I was about to open it when I heard her yell at me for not eating anything. I quickly turned around and stopped by her side, giving her a quick peck on her cheek. Then I ran back towards the door, shouting “I love you, mom!” With that, I stormed out of the house and got into my baby. It was an Audi A6 that I had saved up for and bought on my own.
At last I am on my way to my destination. Hopefully nothing will go wrong now, fingers crossed!
Soon I reached the embassy, I am standing here outside the building just admiring the view. I am so mesmerized by it that I forgot I am late. Looking at the building my heart thumps frantically, buckle up Ella you have only 5 mins left to get in there. Coming out of the car I start running.
just as I reach at the entrance, my thoughts are full of me being late and I didn't realize when I suddenly collides with something or someone very hard, ohh ghissh...
I stumble backwards rubbing my forehead with my right hand. With a Scrunched face I look up only to notice that someone's back is facing me and he's talking on the phone clearly yelling maybe he doesn't get bothered by me. I realize I am late so I quickly ran towards the reception area.
So how was it ? please do vote and comment. It really means a lot.
I sprinted into the main building. I was already late. I saw a beautiful girl who looked about my age or maybe a year or two older standing near the reception desk. I approached her nervously and said “Uh hi, I’m Ella Summers. I’m here for document submission.” The girl looked at me and smiled warmly. She extended her hand and said “Hello, Miss Summers, I’m Jessica Voltin. You are assigned to me for the document verification. Please come with me.” I nodded at her and followed her wherever she was leading us. As we passed by the rooms, I looked at the surroundings. It was pretty nice in here, which I hadn’t noticed when I was coming in. Our journey came to a halt when Jessica entered a room that looked like a conference room. She sat on one of the chairs and I took a seat beside her. She took my documents and studied them for some time. Then she looked up at me and I felt nervous. I gave her a nervous smile and she said “Well, Miss Summers, I must say you are pretty interesting and
By the time I reached home, I was completely exhausted both mentally and physically. Feeling tired and hungry, I was about to cry. “God, what did I do wrong?” I couldn’t control my hunger. As soon as I entered my house, I was greeted by the delicious mouthwatering smell of my mom’s homemade food. God, I loved my mom. I ran into the kitchen and saw her cooking. As soon as she saw me, she smiled and said “I know you must be hungry. You left without eating your breakfast so I made something for you. Come on, let’s eat together.” Honestly, she didn’t even have to say those words because when I saw chicken, salad, rice and chocolate pancakes, I jumped on the dining table and started eating like a lunatic. I couldn’t help it. I was really hungry and mom’s delicious food was just the cherry on top. I heard mom laughing. I looked up at her and saw her smiling widely at me while laughing a bit too. Whoops! “Mom, you can’t laugh at me like that. I haven’t eaten anything since morning. You
6 MONTHS WENT BY JUST LIKE THAT~ Life is all set. Everything is happening according to how I wished and planned things to be. Perfect career, a very happy family, slightly annoying but lovely sister, friends, money, respect, everything. I have everything except one thing…my so-called love life. But that’s fine. I’m more than happy with my life right now. After that night, I joined the embassy and started working as a translator. Currently, I’m in my training and development period. After three more months, I’ll be ready to fly to the moon like a rocket. Someone smacked my head, which made me jerk forward and killed my thought process. Rubbing my head, I whined “What the hell, Roman?” I didn’t even have to look up to know who did the honor, because I knew there was only one person who could do something like this to me. “No hi, no hello, is this the way you greet your best friend?” He said, putting his hand on his heart and showing a hurt sign. That earned him an eye roll from me
"WOW" He is looking so handsome, all dressed up in a tailored suit. I admit our job pays us well. My chain of thoughts cut by his voice "you know, if we don't have a ball to attend I'd love to continue our staring session further more"he stated while smirking at me with amusement in his voice. I must say, he is looking so fascinating, but I won't admit it on his face just to add up his male ego"ha-ha very funny"I replied back with sass. "You are looking beautiful, "he complimented me "thank you, you don't look bad either" he chuckles at this. Roman is handsome, good looking, caring on top of that my best friend. I admit I like him, like really like like him, but I never told him regarding my feelings towards him. I am just scared about our friendship. I don't want to lose him, so
Finally, we reached our destination.I am currently standing at the entrance. Just checking out everything here in awe and admiration. It's so mesmerizing, oh goodness. I would have definitely regretted if Roman hadn't threatened to attend the gala. Plus cherry on the cake Roman is your date my inner voice mocks me. Well, I must agree with her on this. Feeling giddy giddy in my stomach on this whole situation, bringing a full blown smile make its way to my face. "Earth to Ella" My eyes went wide in horror he must be thinking I literally forgot he's standing right next to me! Giving him my nervous sheepish smile. I didn't say anything,,just shakes my head left to right slightly. He broke the silence "sunshine would you like to go inside, if you are done with checking things from the outside. " I feel the heat rush through my veins at the embarrassment and
As I made my way to the exit, eager to leave and find some solace, a hand suddenly landed on my shoulder. I turned around to see Jessica, wearing a concerned expression on her face. Oh, girl, I seriously needed a break."Where are you going, Ella? Are you okay? You look pale!" she bombarded me with questions. I tried to reassure her, saying I was just tired and planned to head home, assuring her that nothing serious had happened.Jessica was quite possessive as a close friend, and she wasn't about to let me go so easily. "No way, silly. If you're tired, you're not going anywhere just yet. Let's meet Mr. Maxwell's son, Aaron. You can go home afterward."Reluctantly, I agreed, feeling exhausted. Jessica led me through the crowd, and eventually, we came to a stop. There stood a man with broad shoulders, towering at least 6'3" in height, while I stood at just 5'4". I couldn't see his face as his back was turned towards us, but he wore a royal blue suit. Jessica called out to him, and he tu
I woke up to find that nobody was at home. My mom had left with an aunt for reasons unknown, and Janice had stayed over at her friend's house the previous night, which I had just found out in the morning. I got ready for work, feeling tired even before the day had begun. Today was shaping up to be a long and exhausting day. ... A few hours later... Roman didn't show up at work today, probably due to a hangover, and thankfully, Janice didn't mention anything about yesterday. Other colleagues were giving me curious glances here and there, but otherwise, things seemed relatively normal. I set down my pen as I heard the ting sound of an old, rusted wall clock on the wall in front of me. I glanced at it and realized that it was already past 9 o'clock. I had stayed late, thanks to Jessica piling on extra paperwork for me. Taking a deep breath, I felt a sense of relief knowing that I had finally completed all the files that had been sitting on my desk. Now, I was the only one left in the
I sat there, listening to him say those words, panic building inside me. This was a dangerous situation, and I needed to think quickly to escape this psycho."First, let's untie your blindfold, shall we?" he said, coming closer to me. I could feel his body heat, his breath fanning my face. I started struggling, but he held me firmly, his grip unyielding. "Stay still, Ella. I won't bite...yet," he taunted. My breath hitched, and the discomfort of his proximity overwhelmed me. It was clear that he was enjoying this situation, while I was trapped and helpless. I fought against him, but realizing that it was futile, I stopped struggling. He continued, "Don't you want to yell at me or report me? You can do that. I won't stop you." It was all too much.He must be insane. I averted my gaze from him, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of seeing my fear. "Alright, I was just teasing you," he said, grinning at me. He was sitting just a short distance away.I fought back the urge to cry. I
