Chapter 27: Distraught

Nikolai wrapped my body in a bundle of the thick fluffy towel before he lifted me up and walked out of the bathroom. I look like a toddler when I am in his arms. My entire height does not even reach his chest, therefore I am essentially a child in comparison to him. It's no surprise that he refers to me as his doll…or that because he sees me as his leisure, his favorite toy to play with when he’s bored.
The thought causes a sharp pain to strike me in the chest that I can't seem to shake. I have to swallow hard to keep the sobs from erupting and blink my eyes repeatedly to keep my vision from becoming blurred. I also made a conscious effort to keep my breathing steady so he wouldn't notice my depressed state of mind. But the thing is, it is more like an underground dome, completely hidden in plain sight.
