49: REINCARNATION

Jim and his wolf hadn't slept in days. He had been bugging Jim to go out on a run, but he couldn't bear to leave Cassie's side. She had six seizures in three days. Something wasn't right, any regular human would have died from an Alpha's or, in this case, a soon-to-be Alpha's bite.

What the fuck was Mitch thinking biting her like that? Jim asked himself.

“Alpha, you have to eat something,” Kristoff took Jim's shoulder and pleaded with him to get some food.

“I just don't have the desire to eat. What if something happens to her while I'm gone?”

“You don't have to leave her. I can have the chef send your food here,” Kristoff declared, then his nose flared. “Do you smell that?” Kristoff asked.

“No—what do you smell?” Jim sniffed the air, but nothing.

“I don't know, but I smell chocolates and something else. I'm not sure, but I think - " Kristoff walked up to the bed where Cassie lay. “I think it's coming from Cassie,” he said as he knelt on his knees. He brushed a thumb over t
