Chapter 4: You are my wife

Solene couldn't understand why she was affected by what Bruce had done to her. She closed her eyes to calm herself from getting anxious and continued what she would do. She bit her lips when she remembered how their lips had met accidentally.

After Solene had prepared everything, Sebastian was still sleeping, which led her to eat alone with Bruce.

Bruce was silent, and Solene was thankful that Bruce didn't tease her for the simple kiss they had accidentally done. Solene felt she was chewing plastic food and tasted the bitterness in her mouth.

She couldn't stop herself from thinking about what would happen to her if she did marry her ex-boyfriend. Maybe, she wasn't in the old house and happy with him.

“Young lady Solene, you keep looking at me. Did you think that I'm more delicious than this food?” Bruce commented, which made Solene stop chewing and give Bruce a death glare.

Solene forced herself to smile at Bruce, but her heart clenched, and she almost couldn't breathe properly.

“Bruce, I know how good you are because Sebastian kept talking about you. I'm thankful that you agreed to marry me, but I don't think that your body is good enough for me.” After Solene finished her words, she started to cough because she was lying. Bruce had a good body, and she knew how known Bruce was to any women in their town.

Bruce pursed his lips and faked his cough before Solene was about to say something to him. Solene felt that she offended Bruce secretly and felt guilty.

In the end, Solene was the one who was eating alone in the kitchen. She was remorseful that she had told Bruce about his body. What would happen if Bruce was insecure about his body?

Solene didn't know what she should do next. She wanted to say something nice, but whenever Bruce was giving her a look, she felt that she needed to defend herself.

Solene didn't sleep well because of what happened that night. She went out of her room and found Bruce because her guilt was trying to eat her.

“It's midnight. Why are you still awake?” Solene gasped when she heard Bruce's voice. She bit her lips and lowered her head, for she was ashamed to face his sight.

“I… I want to tell you—”

“Sleep now, Solene. If you are telling me that you wanted to sleep with me, maybe—”

“Of course not! Bruce, why don't you let me finish my word? I want to say sorry for what I said because I thought that you might be offended.”

“I'm not. I heard many of the most painful words coming to someone's mouth, and your words don't even hurt me.” Bruce pulled Solene and let Solene turn around, but Solene was too determined to ask for an apology.

“Well, we are the same; that's why I'm sorry for what I said to you. Bruce, I didn't mean it. You have a nice and beautiful body.” Solene wanted to hide because of the humiliation that she felt. How could she praise a man's body without considering what Bruce might think about her?

Bruce's mouth twitched, and his eyes sparkled, which made Solene almost feel her cheeks rise.

“Is it a little bit weird that the most beautiful woman in this town is praising someone like me?” Bruce moved closer to Solene, and he gave Solene a cold smile.

“Young lady Solene, don't praise someone's body, or else I might think you want sex with me.” Bruce didn't wait for Solene to respond and turned around. He walked down the stairs, and he didn't even look at Solene, who was still in shock because of his blunt words.

Solene watched how Bruce left the house, and she didn't know where Bruce was about to go.

“Bruce!” Solene heard her cousin's voice, making her rush downstairs. Her eyes widened in anger when she saw how Bruce entered Donna's car.

Donna saw her and gave her a devilish smirk, which made Solene feel the painful impact on her heart. Why did Bruce leave the house at midnight with Donna? Does it mean that they were having an affair?

Solene knew how Donna liked Bruce so much. If Bruce was wealthy, Donna might have thrown herself in Bruce's lap and even slept with him.

Solene watched how the car left, and she slowly fell to the ground. Does her grandfather know about Bruce's affair with Donna? And because Donna was one of his favorites now, he didn't want to end up with Donna anymore.

“Solene, what are you looking at? You can't sleep?” Solene was surprised when she heard Sebastian's voice. She sighed, turned around, and smiled at Sebastian.

“I can't sleep. Why don't you go back to your room? I will sleep once I'm sleepy.” Solene did not make her voice sound like she was about to cry. She knew how Sebastian would notice that there was something wrong with her.

Sebastian nodded his head, but he didn't remove his sight from Solene. He sighed and turned around to obey what Solene wanted.

Solene looked at the clock, and it was 4 AM, but Bruce was still not returning to their house. She couldn't stop herself from getting mad at him.

She didn't know when she fell asleep, but she woke up when she heard a car coming to their house.

“Bruce, thank you for accompanying me tonight!” Donna yelled and giggled like a flirt woman.

Solene opened her eyes abruptly and saw that it was 6 AM. She stood up and saw Bruce coming into their house.

“Where did you? I'm waiting for you to come back here. Bruce, six hours with my cousin.” Solene was so furious, and Bruce stopped as if he couldn't believe that he was seeing Solene scolding him.

“I didn't do anything wrong. Why are you acting—-” Bruce couldn't finish what he was about to tell when Solene smacked his chest.

“We got married yesterday, and you even slept with my cousin. How dare you!” Solene slammed her hands on Bruce's chest again, and Bruce didn't flinch. He only watched how she released her anger.

“Bruce, how dare you do this to me?” Solene didn't stop as long as Bruce didn't explain his side. She was about to smack Bruce's chest, but Bruce stopped her by holding her hand.

Before Solene could react, Bruce pulled her to enter her room, and Solene widened her eyes when they were about to go. Bruce opened the door and hugged Solene.

Solene smelled that Bruce had drunk some liquor and shrieked when her body fell into her bed. Bruce was beside her and embracing her tiny body. Solene gulped.

Everything was too familiar to her, and she didn't know why.

“You are my wife. I can sleep beside you, right? Starting today, we will go to sleep in one room.” Bruce announced, and Solene's body froze when Bruce pulled her head onto his chest. She swallowed, hoping Bruce couldn't hear what her heart was beating for.
