The following days were hell for me. I had no motivation to do anything, I barely had an appetite, and leaving my room did not appeal to me. However, I forced myself out of my room and swallowed every food Marian served me to feel a semblance of normalcy, but it seemed impossible.

Everything I did to feel better was simply a reminder that I was in danger and anything could happen to me at any time. Soph and Kimi were quick to catch on because, according to them, I did a horrible job of hiding my worries.

The only good thing that came from my constant sulking was Soph feeling bad for me and promising to break down the parables she’d been speaking in for weeks, despite Kane’s strict orders for her not to. All I had to do was seal my lips and pretend I knew nothing.

“Alpha suspects a group of prominent families are up to something sinister,” Soph revealed. My eyes widened in shock.

“Prominent families?” I asked, and Soph gave a confirmation nod.
