45: Weak Resolve

Another woman, dressed almost similarly to the one I saw speaking to Jason earlier, walks out of one of the tents. She had two garlands in her hold and she greeted us.

“Hola. Welcome to Fantasyland.” Her voice was cheerful and her smile bright as she said that. I automatically found myself smiling back. “I’m Amaya and I’ll be your guide and helper for your stay here.”

“Nice to meet you,” I spoke.

She wiggled the garlands in her hold, and when I went to take it from her. She pulled her hand backwards. I watched her a little confused, wondering if I did something wrong.

“We put it in you. It’s tradition.” I shrugged and let her put it over my head.

She does the same for Jason, though he had to lean down because he was much taller.

“Your way to paradise is here,” she said in a singsong voice as she started walking away.

Jason is quietly walking beside me. Multiple times, I had to force myself to not steal a glance or five. He seemed relaxed, I noticed that much from his posture. So

this reminds me of a recurring nightmare i've had. i loose my kids, but somehow i am distracted from finding them. Who on earth would go for a mini vacay, or just stay holed up in a house doing nothing while your kids are being held away from you? i am annoyed at myself for reading this book!
