CHAPTER 5: So close yet so far away

JAXON POV

I was about to turn and leave when I heard a scream making me flinch.

For a moment I got confused as to who was screaming and then I realized the voice sounded familiar.

Rosalina…

Not giving it a second thought I ran back to her house. As I was about to enter I see the door is closed.

Getting frustrated I started banging on the door. I kept thudding on it harshly and hitting it with my arm, kicking it but nothing worked. This is some good material.

Then it hit my head that her house has a back door.

'Maybe that is open' I thought

With the thought in my mind and hands trembling I went towards the back of the house where the door was located. My hands touched the doorknob and turned it.

It was OPEN! I quickly entered the house and saw the mess. My heartbeat began to escalate due to fear. I carefully went through the house, observing everything. I started to look for Rosalina but could not find her. I searched the entire house but only found the mess, all the contents spread around as if a storm had just passed by. As I went to the living room, I saw Rosalina laying there with blood coming out of her head and a piece of a glass dipped into her foot.

My heart sunk at the sight of her lying on the floor unconscious. I quickly went to her and put her head up and placed it near my chest.

"Rosa?! Rosalina?" I called out for her

"Rosaline wake up! This is not funny" I said feeling anxious

I quickly picked her up and ran towards my car that was near the departmental store a few blocks away from her house.  I gently placed her in the backseat of my car and begin to drive to the hospital as fast as I could.

JAXON POV

Jaxon hurriedly drove to the hospital. His eyes kept tracing to the back mirror to check on Rosalina. If she was okay. As he reached the hospital he gently took her out of the backseat of the car carried her inside the hospital.

"DOCTOR? NURSE?" He called out loudly seeking everyone's attention.

Then the nurses came and helped Jaxon place Rosaline onto the stretcher and they took her to take care of her.

Hands shaking, Jaxon went to one of the seats and settled himself. His mind was blank. He did not even realize he was crying until he felt a cool touch on his skin due to the tears that had soaked his shirt.

The remembrance of the sight of Rosalina's unconscious body made him shiver. He kept waiting until the doctor came out.

JEREMY POV

I just came out of the shower and set myself on my bed ready to sleep. I opened my phone to see

5 missed calls _ Jax's mother

'Why is she calling me?' I thought

I immediately called her back and she picked up.

Jaxon’s Mother: Hello?

Jeremy: Hello auntie did you call me?

Jaxon’s Mother: Ah yes dear I called just to ask if Jaxon is with you all?

I got confused for a moment. Where could Jaxon be? He must have gotten himself into some trouble. Without thinking twice I spoke.

Jeremy: Yes he is. He is in the washroom

Jaxon’s Mother: Okay please ask him to come home soon. Thank you.

She hung up.

This boy is going to be the cause of my death someday. Where is he at this time it's almost 10:30 pm? His mom is used to him coming home late. But he is usually with us but God knows where he is now.

I put on clothes and quickly went towards my car. As I live alone so no one to bombard me with questions. I went towards my car and unlocked it. As soon as I got inside I gave a call to Jaxon knowing he must be lying somewhere drunk.

He has been doing so ever since his and Rosalina's breakup. What Rosalina has done with him had left him broken. That is why we all can't help but despise her. She completely changed him into something which we never expected. But still, something lingers. Just something which should stay lingering and out of touch.

The phone kept on ringing but he did not pick. After a few more calls he finally picked up

Jeremy: Where the fucking hell are you? Do you know your mother had called me questioning me where you are!

Jaxon: .............

Jeremy: Jaxon I am speaking to you!

Jaxon: .............

Jeremy: JAXON!

Jaxon: Jeremy.....

He said with a cracked voice. I was furious at him but hearing him like this my eyes softened. Then I calmly asked

Jeremy: Jaxon. What's wrong?

Jaxon: R-Rosalina

He said and burst out crying. He must be drunk. I immediately asked him where he was and he replied

Jaxon: Parker’s Hospital

Jeremy: Okay I am coming

I hung up.

Hearing that he was in the hospital left me stunned. Meaning something has happened to Rosalina. Massaging my temples as tension built in me. I quickly drove to the hospital he named.

JAXON POV

After finishing talking to Jeremy, I patiently waited for the doctor to come. Until that the nurse had asked me to fill in some paper works and as I finished them the doctor came out. I hurriedly went to him and asked

"Doctor h-how is she?" My voice cracked

"She is completely fine. She hit her head with something which caused her to faint and open up the old scar that was on her head. Which caused the bleeding" The doctor said

"Old scar?" I asked confused

"Yes, the area where she got hit was already cut before. But yes her foot is injured and she will have difficulty walking for a month or two. Rather than that she is fine. She has not woke up yet and it will take her time"

"C-Can I see her?" I asked as my voice cracked

"Yes in Room No.2173." The doctor replied

I thanked him and quickly ran to her room. As I found her room, I entered it to see a huge plaster on her foot and two bandages on her head. And there she was lying peacefully.

I went to her and sat beside her bed. I felt like holding her hand and so I did it. I kept looking at her

'I hate you. I fucking hate you for whatever you did but why? Why does it happen that I always end up with you? My weakness always works for you. Why? Even after what happened.' I thought

The thought of the incident that had taken place 3 years ago made me clench my fist. I harshly let go of her hand and head towards the wall punching it resulting in my knuckles bleeding.

Then the door swung open revealing Jeremy. I looked at him with angered eyes and he looked at my knuckles and his eyes widened

"What the fuck have you done to yourself?!?" He said as he came to me

"Let it be I am fine," I said coldly

"I am not listening to you. You need treatment" He said

I got angry and screamed at him.

"NO, I SAID I NO!!" I said screaming

He went silent and looked down. My eyes softened and I realized what I just did.

"Sorry bro" I mumbled

"It's alright. Happens…" He said giving his famous eye smile.

Then there was a long silence. Until he broke it.

"So what happened to her?" He asked

I explained everything to him and he was quite shocked.

"Is she insane? I mean which idiot stands in the middle of the road and closes her eyes?!" He said making a weird face and causing me to chuckle.

"She undoubtedly is," I replied

Again there was a long silence.

Then my phone started to ring and my eyes widened. It was my mom. I picked up and made an excuse that I was going to stay at Jeremy’s house. Eureka! She believed me. Jeremy gave me that 'your-so-dead-look'

I was going through my phone when I felt like Rosalina moved. I quickly looked at her but saw she was still sleeping so I went back to my phone. Jeremy had gone back to his house and I was here alone. This time I heard someone groaning. I look at Rosalina and see she was moving her hand to her head. I quickly went to her. She looked around confused, but then saw me and her eyes widened. Then her face turned into a cold face and she asked

"Why am I here? And why are you here?" She asked

"And welcome," I said sarcastically

She looked at me confused.

"Well if I did not enter your house from the back door and pick you up and bring you to the hospital. You would still have been laying there lifeless" I said

"Didn't expect you to be the one saving me but anyways thank you for showing a little mercy upon me."

"You’re welcome bitch" I said and smirked

She just rolled her eyes.

Rosalina POV

After having a conversation with Jaxon. I decided to sleep ignoring his presence.

He started to explain whatever happened but I was not paying attention. My mind was only playing one question.

'Will he be as nice to me as he is right now or will he return to his normal way?' I thought

As I was lost in my thoughts. Jaxon flicked my head bringing me back to reality.

"What are you thinking?" He asked

"Nothing," I said looking down

"Oh come on tell me," He said

"Nothing special," I said and looked the other way.

"Please tell me," He said nagging

I looked at him asked

"Why did things turn this way between us Jaxon? We were so great. Then what happened that we turned this way? Why am I still in the dark?" I asked disappointed

His expression turned from a curious to a dark one. There was a prolonged silence and it was extremely tranquil and I could see Jaxon's eyes getting red.

I had a confused expression. He suddenly chuckled and spoke

"Once a hoe, always one. I must say you have pretty good acting skills, don't you? What am I even saying! Of course, you do. You have to convince guys to sleep with you every night don't you?"

He said leaving me speechless. I was completely shocked by what he just said.

"What are you talking about?!" I said as anger took over me as he crushed my dignity.

"Oh don't you play me okay! Don't even dare! By the way, don't show me that attitude, you’re in no position to do so. So I suggest keep them to yourself slut." He said rudely

"Jaxon I have no idea what you're talking about," I said as angry tears flew down my eyes.

"Oh really? You don't? Well, that's strange. How about I help you?" His voice mocked me with his expressions as a complement

"You may please as I do not remember doing anything in the past that would offend you," I said wiping my tears having a bold expression on.

"Hah! So you're innocent? Hmm." He said

I was an internal mess and did not know what to say. All I could do was wait for him to answer. He knocked off his chair and brought his face close to mine. We are so close to each other yet the misunderstandings made us distant and I guess it was time to clear them. He then spoke

"So miss innocent. Ring a bell when I say 'James'..."
