The mage, Karl, entered the secret room. He’d watched his uncle, Rolo, one of the top experts in curses and necromancy, risk his sanity by taking chances with the unknown. They had taken Rolo into custody and were responding to treatment slowly, but it would be a long time before they could trust him to work again within his chosen field. He’d lost so much as the council’s representative for the Mage Faction. Now his cousin took up that Rolo’s mantel, and that left Karl floundering to make a name for himself within the University.

The University was basically the hub of the Mage world. The centre of learning and culture. Everyone made it there at one time or another. Without your credentials, you were no one and one step away from being a hedge mage. Which Karl figured the feral rogue wolves were. Necromancy and most blood magics were illegal. Though a senior mage could get away with the lesser spells if they could prove that the spells would benefit others more than themselves.
