When the Adults Speak

   

             Janine watched the others separate and head for the rooms they’d given them. With the late hour, she gave up on doing anything more this evening and headed to her own apartment. She thought she was going there by herself until her door stopped before it closed, and Haden entered.

             “We need to talk.” His voice was deeper and raspier than before, which triggered something in the back of her mind. Janine’s instincts went on alert.

             “What do we need to talk about that can’t wait until the morning, Haden?” She turned and tried to smile up at him. But she failed, and it turned in to a frown.

             “Come on. Let’s have a drink, relax, and talk about what happen
