Web Of Lies

The silence was loud as I stood there, waiting for my husband to say something; anything. My heart was thundering to the point that I think I could even hear it.

My throat was dry and my breathing was heavy as I waited.

Chris took a shaky breath, his hands trembling as he struggled to find the words. “I can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner,” He whispered, his voice choked with emotion. “I can’t believe I didn’t see who you really are.”

My heart sank as I watched the pain and betrayal etched into every line of his face. I wanted to reach out to him, to explain, to beg for forgiveness. But I still did not know what he was talking about.

I needed to be sure before I gave myself away.

“What do you mean?” I managed to choke out, my voice barely above a whisper as I took a tentative step towards him.
