Chapter 1

It was the night of the full moon. Me and my family were having a blast, running through the woods. The wind was blowing, the sky brightened by the moon, and the trees danced as we flew past. It was a night to remember. I have never felt my heart race in my life as much as it did at that moment. I am only 4 years old. I am still learning the ways of our pack. My mother is married to the alpha

“Mother, I do not understand much about what an alpha is. I know that my father leads our pack, and that he is our peace settler..”

“You are next in line to be commander. You will have to be educated in our laws.” She tells me with a smile. “I am not ready to lead, mother…” I look at her with discouragement in my face.

“It will be sometime before you have to worry about that. Your father will live a long time. Long enough for you to learn the laws of our pack.” I worry because I have so little knowledge of our pack laws. All I care about is having fun. I did not realize that my life would all change in an instant. That I would lose everything in one second. That my father's destiny was not to rule the pack. That my pack would die at their hands, and I would lose my freedom to him.

"Run!" Father howled as we ran through the forest. I thought he was telling us to run faster. I had no clue he meant to run for our lives. The sounds of howling in the background chilled me to the bone. I did not know what was going on. My mother and father stood their ground. The rest of the pack ran. I was torn, I did not know whether to follow my mother and father or to run with my pack. As I turned to look around at my mother, a projectile came from the bushes. I hollered for her to turn around, but it was too late. The pointed stick had already pierced her in the back. I froze as blood poured onto the ground. All I could hear was my father howling louder.

"Run! Run! Daughter, Run!" I could not move though. Fear spread across my body. I stared at my mother as I walked closer to her body.

"Mother?" I pushed her floppy, lifeless body. It was heavy. My eyes overflowed with water as I tried to move her.

"Mother! Get up mother!" I begged for her to move, but she was still.

"Daughter!" My father ran towards me as arrows engorged the sky. Howls of my pack in pain infused the air. I saw blood fly in different directions as my father grabbed my neck. I was lost as images flew past my face. My father was running with me in his mouth. Member after member fell to the ground as we ran past the trees to the cave. I did not know what was going on, but I was certain of one thing. My life was in my fathers hands now. The beings were closing in on us. Their wooden sticks with strings, and their black fire flashing sticks with lights flashing from the ends were getting closer. I could hear yelling. I was shocked. They sounded a lot like my father when he used something called English. Was my father one of them? Did he anger them? Were they after him? We had finally reached the cave entrance. It was too late though. The minute my father threw me into the cave, the beings were behind him. He was surrounded.

"Is anyone left alive!" He howled for the pack, but no one responded. Was it just me and father?

"No matter what... do not come out daughter!" He growled at me. He was serious. A being stepped forward.

"We know what beast you are!" The being yelled as he got closer. My father did not back down. He stood his ground as one stepped closer. He took one look Back in my direction.

"I love you. Remember, never give up, and keep our secret to the grave. Have kids to keep our family alive. Me and your mother will always be there for you." He howled one last time. It was a howl full of sorrow. The human held up its stick, but I could not bear to see what happened next. I heard a scream echo through the cave, but it was not father. I looked up as the being fell to the ground.

"Get him!" The being in the front yelled. The mob ran towards father, but he did not stop. He attacked one after another. Biting each one's neck as they tried to hit him. He dodged most of the hits by dancing on his feet. When he had killed the seventh being, one sneaked up behind him, and slashed his back with something sharp and shiny.

"Ahhhhhh!" Father whimpered in pain. I could no longer do as he asked. I ran out to him, hoping I could help him. I did not want him to die. As I left the cave, a being grabbed my neck, lifting me up.

"Lookie here! We got us a baby one!" He was getty.

"Let's kill it!" Part of the mob yelled for my death.

"No! No! Sell it!" The other half yelled.

"A pup wolf would make good money... whether it is cursed or not...." the leader spoke. My father howled with a fierce tone.

"You will not lay a hand on her!" He began to stand on his back legs. His bones popped as his back began to straighten. His legs were tall. His hands were big. His ears and tail stayed the same, but he looked more like the being than me. This was our normal form when it was not a full moon.

"You will not touch her!" He ran towards the leader as lights flashed towards him. He was hit multiple times, but still, he came for me.

"Father!" I howled. I had never seen rage in my father before, but I knew it was still him. He ran straight into the being, making us all fall to the ground. As we fell, I heard the air leave my fathers lungs.

"Father?" I whimpered. The being pushed him off, and he was lifeless as my mother. He did not move.

"Father!" I cried. I struggled to get out of the being's hand, but his grip was too strong. "Oh no! Little one, you are coming with me!" He laughed.

"Bring me the cage!" He yelled to the back. A being stepped forward with a rope-like thing. The being threw me inside.

"Let's go!" Those were the last words I heard, before being put in darkness. I did not know what to do. I was alone. I felt hopeless. What was going to happen to me? Was I to be alone the rest of my life? I laid in the darkness for what seemed like days. When I was brought back out into the light, I had no clue where I was. I had never seen the place before. There were no trees in sight. All I could see were buildings, and lots of beings running around. I was scared. I had even peed myself in the cage. I was now laying in my own liquids. I began to whimper.

"Help me someone! Please!" I howled, begging for help. However, no one came or no one cared. I was indeed alone.
