Chapter 64 - Time to Heal

Avalon – 3 years later

We left the cave shortly afterwards. Deciding it was probably best to make ourselves scarce before Lord Tyrell and his vampire army came to take back what they believed to be theirs.

It was my belief, that whilst everyone thought Lucas dead, the safer we would both be.

England was out of the question for us, too many people there knew of us, who we were and the importance that we would have in underworld should we be caught.

As much as Lord Tyrell had promised me that I would always be welcome in the underworld, I had to question why? Was it that he hoped to use my status to glean the trust of the demon aristocracy? Did he believe that with me by his side, his transition into power would be made easier? Or was it that he simply wanted to keep his friends close, but his enemies closer.

I was not naive; I knew that Lucas and I were Tyrell’s number one rival for the throne. So, our only choice was to leave and move as far away from him and his vampire hoard as possible.

So that is how we ended up here, in the middle of the Canadian Rockies. It took us a while to discover the perfect place. But when I was 9 months pregnant, and we stumbled on the sleepy little skiing town, we fell in love.

Hélène soon followed us. She managed to leave quietly, without anyone even noticing her. To begin with it was for love of Lucas and wanted to be there help raise his child, as she had helped to raise him. But when she discovered that he had survived, she was overjoyed. She became a god send to us. The mother that we both wanted but neither had.

We had the privilege of waking up every morning to the view of the snow-capped mountains, and the cerulean blues of the endless lakes. It was the complete opposite to the underworld. Open and brimming with life.

Our only neighbours being the odd wondering bear or birds chirping in the trees. A sense of peace settled over us as we fell into our new life.

Our son, Marcus Lucifer Caine, was born on the morning after a full moon. A sign of how healthy and strong he would be, according to Hélène. He was born in front of the fireplace in the living room of our secluded home, into the arms of his father and with Hélène acting as my midwife.

He was perfect in every way. His soul untouched by evil, and his heart as pure as light. Unlike Lucas, his hair was covered in a fuzz of black, one eye ice blue, the other green.

He was a blessing, one that we both fell head over the heels in love with. So much so, that we decide to expand out family.

I am now pregnant with our second child, a girl. A girl who will be names Oona Hélène, after the two strongest women that we knew.

I caress my bump as I watch Lucas chase our 20 month old son around the meadow field. Lucas’ hair cropped short now that we have integrated ourselves into the human world. His denim jeans pulling tight across his perfectly sculpted arse and legs.

Marcus squeals in delight as Lucas scoops him up into the air and tickles him mercilessly.

I watch them as a sense of peace washes through me. Remembering my time in the underworld. I had gone by so many titles since coming of age. Hunter, Princess, Wife, Twice Blessed, Cursed, Queen, but the greatest title that I will ever have the privilege to be given, is, and will forever more be, Mother.
