Today is the day that Richie is schedule to meet with the Alpha of the pack that he’s putting on notice, The Dark Moon Pack. Even though he hasn’t said it, I know he’s nervous. We’ve been together long enough that I can feel his emotions. Not only that, but he’s also distracted. For the first time since we’ve stayed the night together, he gets out of bed without wanting to be inside me. Normally in the mornings, I have to stop him from taking me every which way he can get me before our day officially starts. As I walk into the kitchen, I hear Richie introducing Samuel and Aiden to Jackson and Cayd. They made a point to be waiting by Richie's office door, so Alpha Samuel would know that Richie isn’t the only ranked member in the packhouse. The meeting has been going on for an hour. Cayd is sitting in the living room watching TV. I walk in and sit down beside him, tuning into Richie’s office. I know it’s soundproofed, but if I listen hard enough, I can hear. Jackson comes out of the office and both mine and Cayd’s heads move to look at him. “Issue with the patrols.” Jackson says before shifting on his way out the back door. “Go, I’ve got this.” I tell Cayd as he runs to assist Jackson. It’s not long before I hear the shift in the conversation upstairs. I’m up and moving before I even think about it. I get to the office and knock twice before walking in. After dealing with the Alpha Samuel issue, scheduling a hearing with the council, and letting Emerson and Cohen know what happened, I can finally focus on Emlyn’s birthday. It is nearly here, and I want to do something special for her. After two years, she’ll finally recognize me as her mate. I’ve noticed that she wears a watch all the time. The one she has is utilitarian and while it’s functional, I’ve decided to get her a new one. The one I’ve decided on is gold colored with a link bracelet that she can be resized to fit to her small wrist. The evening before my birthday, I say goodbye to Richie. I have mixed feelings about leaving. More and more, I’m confident that he’s my mate, but tomorrow will be the day. I had been waiting all day to see Emlyn. It was torture, knowing she would finally see me as her mate. I feel sick, like I’m in a haze and all I want to do is go hide away and never return. But that is not what a Guardian does, and I will act every bit of the Guardian that I am tonight.
