Failure

As I sprinted across the road, my eyes fixed on Samson's retreating figure, I didn't notice the truck barreling down on me. Suddenly, the screeching tires and blaring horn snapped me back to reality. I froze, my heart racing, as the truck bore down on me. Time seemed to slow as I realized I wouldn't make it across.

In a split second, my adrenaline kicked in, and I dropped flat on the ground, my palms scraping against the rough asphalt. The truck's underside brushed against my hair, the metal scraping against my scalp, sending shivers down my spine. The smell of burning rubber and hot metal filled my nostrils as the truck screeched to a halt mere inches from my face.

The driver's panicked voice echoed through the air, "Oh my God, are you okay?" Chris's concerned face appeared beside me, "Dan, are you alright?" I ignored them both, my gaze fixed on the spot where Samson had stood just seconds ago. But he was gone. Again.
