Dianne ignored Nicolas’s plea and closed her eyes. She felt his arm wrap around her waist and she stiffened at first, not knowing what he was planning to do. However, eventually, she relaxed and allowed him to pull her against his chest. She leaned her head back against his shoulder and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“It was supposed to be a good monthiversary,” he said softly.

He placed his hand on her hip and caressed her skin gently, hoping that it would calm her down enough for her to speak, “We didn’t do shit. You came home from work and I waited for you. I went to bed, I woke up, and I waited again until finally you came home. And every single night that passed by without you being in my arms, I felt the same way I feel now. Every single night.”
