Xander POV

I could swear that in that moment Jamal dies and resurrects. He flashed a nervous smile before getting himself back into his normal intimidating look. I thought that this was my chance and if I could press harder, Jamal would let something slip. Something that might lead me to discover the entire truth.

“What? Does the disappearance ring any bell?” I asked.

Jamal laughs and answers. “Of course it does. Methis had gone for treatment abroad. Nearly fatal thing, it was.”

I cursed within myself. Jamal was probably smarter than I had anticipated. He did not evade questions. He answered them. Evasion was a sign of guilt but I knew better. Even with an aligning story from Methis and this strange man, it was still likely a well-planned lie.

“Where abroad?” I asked.

“I am not Methis mouthpiece. If you wish to know so much then ask her if she’ll be comfortable enough to tell you such details,” Jamal answered. “Now, seize with the interrogation, worm. I have better matters to att
