TWO WEEKS LATER

I stared at myself in the mirror, combing through my hair. Today was the day Emilio expected my response, and he was sure not expecting a no. I had thought about it endlessly. I wanted to be with Emilio, but this time things would be different. I wouldn’t let him think I was weak, someone he needed to protect. I survived two years without him, almost died in childbirth, and I wouldn’t let him ever toss me out of his life again.

Emily knocked lightly on the door before stepping into the room. “Hey, Sarah. The driver is here, and Conrad is already in the car. Are you ready?”

I turned to her, nerves fluttering in my stomach. “Yeah, I’m ready. Just… feeling a bit anxious.”

Emily walked over, giving me a once-over. “You look amazing, Sarah. Hot, even. Emilio won’t know what hit him.”

I laughed, shaking my head. “Thanks, Em. I hope you’re right.”

She came closer, her expression turning serious. “Listen, whatever decision you make today, I support you. Don’t be nervous.
