05. You Can’t Touch Me, Unless I Tell You To.

Mek's POV 🇳🇬

I hugged the file in my hands to my chest as I kept my eyes on the tall silver building that was going to be my new source of livelihood. There was no way on earth that I was going to be bored in the place. I mean, I had a boss who couldn't go to the hospital to get treatment because of fear of being caught. The politics, the secrets, the drama! I was physically ready for all of it, because it was just like watching a drama on the television. I thought all these things only happened on tv, but I was offered a front roll ticket to everything, including the actors.

I tucked a stray braid behind my ears, wiped imaginary dust from my black skirt, then made my way into the building.

I smirked at the receptionist I met yesterday as I made my way to the elevator. The shock on her face was the highlight of my morning. Why did she look so surprised though? And what was her name again? I shook my head and stood with the other employees waiting for the elevator.

I rocked my body slowly from side to side as I waited for the elevator. The heavy metal was taking forever to get here.

"Miss Machu?" A very familiar voice called me. And of course I knew who it was because he was the only one that called me that in the whole building, coupled with the fact that his thick accent made it impossible to pronounce my surname right.

"Good morning Mr. Gataki," I smiled at Cy, my future husband.

I must admit, Cy has a very beautiful and attractive smile. As the man smiled at me, I forgot where I was, I just did the only thing that mattered to me at that point, which was to stare at the perfectly made Homo sapien with a dreamy look on my face. What's worse, he added a small laugh. Oh my poor heart.

"Please call me Cy, Mr. Gataki is too much, I'm not that old," he smiled again. God, what is this temptation?

"Is it really okay to call you that?" I asked him. It was then I noticed the amebo (gossipers) employees standing around us. All of them had their attention on us; well especially on me; I looked too good, I knew it.

"Yeah sure. Come with me," let's get married? I smirked at the many eyes, following after the only person that mattered to me. Walking behind Cy made me notice his broad back, his body, the way he walked; everything about him was perfect. Especially that navy blue suit pressed on him. Holy moly!

"Next time, just use this one," Cy pointed at another elevator that I could swear I didn't notice when I came in here. The elevator looked abandoned, maybe that's why I didn't notice it.

"The CEO, directors and their PA/ secretaries are the only ones allowed to use this," Cy explained.

"If I didn't come get you, you would've stayed there for over ten minutes," Cy explained. I nodded my head at him. He pressed the button and ushered me in. Such a gentleman.

"I'm guessing you read everything closely, so you understand in depth what your post is about," Cy inquired.

Not only did I read everything closely, I read everything more than once. I read the back of the file, to be sure I was seeing what I was seeing. The rules written on it were the same thing Cy had told me, but more detailed. And can I add how very strict the contract was about "disclosing any information about my work?" That part was written in caps and exclamation marks. I'm telling you I had a paper yelling at me. If you've never had a piece of disposable paper yell at you, you won't understand the depth of how I felt reading the hurtful words.

At some point I wanted to burn the thing; like why would you make a piece of paper so rude?

"Yes, I did. Even with the warnings that came with it," I smiled. Cy laughed.

"We just want to make sure that there will be no problem from now on," Cy said. He paused and turned to me.

"Miss Machu, we are counting on you. This job is very important so you can't mess up. You know that right?" His eyes was soft. There was really a lot at stake then. I nodded.

"I'm good at keeping secrets, it's my second job. So everything is safe with me. And please, call me Mek, Miss Machu is kinda a lot," I smiled at him.

"I believe in you and I trust you won't disappoint," Cy smiled. On cue, the elevator stopped and the doors opened.

"Let's go in," Cy led me to Mr. Adonis's office.

From the look of things, Mr. Adonis had a lot of trust in Cy as Cy did for him. It felt like their relationship ran deeper than friendship. They were siblings, brothers. I admired it so much. There were hardly any men in the world who took care of their friends like this, all because they fear being called out as gay; which I feel is the dumbest shit ever.

The friendship the men had was something I craved, but I never had people stick close to me for that long. It was one of the reasons why moving out of my country wasn't hard for me. I didn't have any special bond with anyone like that.

"Good morning, sir," I kept my smile simple.

Mr. Adonis's office was big, but not as big as the ridiculous ones they showed on tv. There were two long couches, one small desk by the window that showed the magnificent view of the city and a door by the left side of his desk. The decor of the office was pretty simple and cool.

Adonis looked away from the document in his hands and to look at me. Holy-

He had reading glasses on, and his hair was tied in a messy bun on the top of his head, so as he looked up, a few strands of hair covered his face.

Mr. Adonis had a small smile on his face as he took off his reading glasses to look at me.

"You're here," he cleared his throat.

"And I brought the file with me, signed," I added.

"Bring it over," He motioned for me to walk towards him. I counted my steps to distract myself from thinking about the perfect men I was surrounded by.

I dropped the file on his desk and stood awkwardly looking down at him.

"Diamandis, I'm going to have breakfast, you want anything?" Cy asked.

"Get me what you're getting," I felt very awkward standing there while the two men displayed their affection for one another, I felt like I was third wheeling.

"Have a seat," Mr. Adonis offered.

"Remember what we talked about?" Cy attacked immediately. I turned to him, thinking he was referring to me and our conversation in the elevator; but he wasn't talking to me.

Mr. Adonis dropped the file I had given him and looked at his friend. Now I was curious.

"Do you want to go over it again?" Cy asked him.

"No! I understood you the fifth time you said it," Mr. Adonis rolled his eyes.

"Do I wait outside?" I asked them, ready to get out of the office.

"No!" They said at the same time. Okay...

"I'll be back," Cy smiled at me and walked out of the office.

"So, you'll work here. Working outside the office will be stressful for me," Mr Adonis said, looking at the small desk and chair on his right side. It was not so close to his desk, but it was. I gulped hard

"I don't expect you to do ridiculous things like getting me coffee," he had his left hand up, showing his fingers, while his right hand cancelled his left fingers as he made his points.

"I don't want you running around. Which means you don't leave this office for anything, unless you really have to, or you're with me. You follow me everywhere I tell you to," he canceled one finger. What about food? I have to eat, Sir. I'm very big on food, sir.

"If you see a man named Achilles, don't engage in any form of conversation with him. That's a breach of contract," What the fuck? And Achilles? A man in real life is named Achilles? Why?? Breach of contract? Dramatic much?

"I might drive you home sometimes, but don't let it get to your head. I will only drive you home when I feel like it's appropriate," excuse me sir, I'm the one helping you, not the other way round!!! I wanted to say the words out loud, but I feared for my life please. The way the man kept his eyes on me was like he was waiting for me to make one mistake then he'd take me to a dark alley and kill me. Then no one will find me because I signed a NDA, offering myself to him.

"There will be no limit to how I touch you. But the moment you feel uncomfortable, you have to tell me immediately!" That's scary. No limit? I really did sell myself, didn't I?

"I have a secretary that does all the hard work, so don't worry about doing any type of work. I won't tell you to do anything that is not written in here," he tapped my contract. I nodded my head.

"Lastly, there will be no form of personal conversations, if you don't have anything to ask me about your job, then I suggest you don't ask me anything. I don't know if you read the articles, but I don't want another secretary/ PA having stupid feelings for me. So please, do well to keep yourself checked at all times. You can't touch me unless I touch you or I tell you to. This working relationship will only work if you follow all these rules. They are important, very important, so please don't mess it up," Mr Adonis said.

I had mixed feelings about everything now. Like why you gotta tell me to check myself? Check yourself too, Sir, I don't want you having stupid feelings for me! I knew what he said was important and very convenient for both of us to coexist, but why did he have to say it like that?

"Do you have anything to say?" He asked me. I nodded my head immediately.

"I will spend a lot of time here, which means I will write here too, and I like a quiet environment while I work," I told him.

"You have nothing to worry about, I don't talk much anyway, it's a waste of time," Who was this man??!!

"Also, don't you think we have to come up with ways to go about this, especially when we are in public?" I asked him.

"No one is supposed to know about my job, which means I have to look professional at all times, even outside this building, as long as I'm with you or else people will suspect absurd things," I told him.

Mr. Adonis kept his eyes on me for a few seconds and leaned into his seat.

"What do you suggest?" He asked.

"We'd have to come up with a plan if you’re going to touch me in public. If you feel the need to touch me in public, please give me a heads up, so I'd find a way you can touch me without looking weird," I told him.

"Okay then. I look forward to working with you," Mr.   Adonis stretched out right hand across the desk. I looked from him to his hand a few times, then put my hands in his. The warmth I felt as he held me. Dear lord.

The handshake was becoming too long and awkward, so I tried to take out my hand, but he didn't let me. I watched as his eyes closed, just like yesterday, what did it feel like? What was he feeling?

    No personal questions!!!

"Mr. Diamandis?" I called him, bringing him out of wherever he was in. The man let go of my hand immediately like I stung him. Ouch.

"You can start work tomorrow. If you have stuff you want to bring here, this is your time to do it," Mr. Adonis spoke like he wasn't lost a few seconds ago. Scary.

"Okay, Sir," I nodded. On cue, Cy opened the door, strolling in with two bags.

"You're leaving?" He asked me, I nodded. Cy looked behind me to his friend. It felt like he was scolding the man with his eyes. Too private for me!!!

I smiled at Cy and made my way out of the office.
