After learning that Cassie wasn't my daughter and that Jess had an affair, I got rid of everything that was hers. I took Kelly to get a whole new wardrobe for the pregnancy and donated the clothes from Jess. I even gave Valerie the wine collection Jess had.
I took Kelly to pick out a guard dog when Joyce approved she could have one at work as long as it wore a police vest. Kelly decided to just do clinic work so the dog could be therapeutic to her patients. She was a German shepherd named Daisy and picked Kelly out of all the other people looking to adopt a guard dog.
I was just finishing up putting on my uniform for work when Kelly came out of the closet. She walks up to me and adjusts my badge. I give her a kiss and her eyes meet mine. "Does that mean I'm forgiven," she asks in a choked whisper.
"I wasn't mad at you, just hurt finding out that a child I was mourning for two years wasn't mine. I'm sorry if I made you feel otherwise," I say softly, wiping
I woke to Grace crying in the middle of the night. I didn't hear Monica and carefully slip from under Kelly. I enter the nursery and Grace was standing up in the crib. Her cries stop the moment I enter the room and reaches her hands up towards me. I pick her from the crib and she nuzzles her face in my neck, her hands clutching my tank top.I sit in the rocker and gently rock the chair. I rub Grace's back gently and feel her relax against my chest. Her breaths slowed as she slowly fell back to sleep, but as soon as I stood up she whimpers. I go back to rocking and again she falls asleep.I go to lay her back in the crib and she holds onto me tight, whimpering. I go back to rocking, feeling myself grow tired. I close my eyes as I continue rocking and Grace lets out a content sigh.I wake to a kiss on my forehead from Kelly. Monica was also in the room and Grace was still asleep on my chest in the rocker. I rub my eyes and Grace sits up,
Two weeks passed since the hidden truth of Jessica's affair came to light when Cassie's father broke into my house. Daisy has been sleeping in our room since. Even as a cop and an ex-marine I'm scared to sleep after hearing he's had a key to get in all this time without my knowledge. Kelly has been stroking the scar on my abdomen every night to help me sleep. I find it soothing even when I start going into an anxiety attack. Carrie had to bring me to her the other day in the middle of a shift. A suspect we were arresting knew about Kelly and threatened to kill her if he got out of jail. Even though Jess cheated on me and Cassie wasn't mine, having the thought of losing Kelly and the twins scared me more than anything. Carrie and I were granted permission to shadow her at the hospital until the suspect has his sentence hearing. So far in two days six people have tried to harm her and failed. I have taken down each attacker and each time Kelly's breaths hitch.&nb
It's been a couple weeks since Carrie moved into the guest room. It's been fun with her around. Both of them are now distracted by my body. I could be cooking at the stove and hear them gasp when I need to lean down to check in the oven. They even watch me do my workout in the morning. My mother was over for dinner a few nights ago and laughed at the two of them. They had their eyes on my every move like they were hypnotized. I wasn't even putting on a show for them. I was caught up in the cooking and my mother had to tell me about it.I was currently on the phone with the warden from the prison my father was in. "You're sure he's dead and all threats are gone," I ask in a choked whisper."Yes, he was caught up in a prison gang fight and another prisoner stabbed him with a shiv," the warden says softly. "All of those who followed him are in solidarity confinement."I break into relieved sobs and Carrie takes the phone. "Thank you warden, I'm s
By lunch time most of our wedding plans were set. I let Kelly pick the full menu for the reception and I picked most of the decorations. I asked to take a break when I looked down at Kelly asleep on my shoulder, hugged to my arm. I carry her up to our room and laid her in bed.I head back down and look over what we've already decided. I added a few things to the food menu I thought children would eat. I also finished picking out decorations and flowers. All that was left was the cake and I wasn't going to do that without Kelly."Jen did all this," Kelly asks in a choked whisper as I was falling asleep at the table."Yes sweetheart, she's been in here all day," Valerie says quietly."All that's left is the cake and seating arrangements," Kelly chokes quietly as she runs her hand in my hair. "I can't believe how beautiful the reception hall will look. I don't understand how Jessica could let their guests disrespect her like that.""
After working with a rookie for the last four weeks, I was glad to have Carrie back as my partner. She's been recovering from donating bone marrow to save Grace's life. She's also been staying with Monica while Grace has been in the hospital. Kelly and I had backed off, letting her have her chance at a relationship with Monica.I visit Grace twice a day, during lunch and her bedtime. Her doctor has been allowing me when she wouldn't go to sleep the first night in the hospital. She pushed Monica away, asking for me. When she immediately went to sleep the moment I laid with her, Monica asked that I be here to help Grace go to sleep at night."How's Monica," I ask with concern as Carrie climbs in the passenger seat of our squad car."Grateful for your discovery. The treatment is working. The doctor called this morning and said Grace is likely to make full recovery," she chokes with a smile."Thank God," I choke with relief as tears roll dow
I take in a gasping breath, bright lights over me with multiple voices around me. Only one voice stuck out over the rest, Kelly's. She was calling my name and I turn my head in her direction. I reach my hand out to her and she takes it. Her breaths start calming down as we held eye contact, her face stained with tears. "I almost lost you Jennifer," she chokes in a shaky whisper. She places my hand on her stomach and I could feel the twins kicking wildly. "They need you Jennifer, they only calm down for you."The doctors and nurses around us kept quiet as she spoke with me. "Good call bringing her in Claire," one of the doctors say softly. "We almost lost her.""Is she dead," I ask in a raspy whisper."Katie," Kelly asks in a choked whisper and I nod. "Yes and so is Kevin's brother."I let out a relieved sigh and close my eyes. I let my thumb sweep at her stomach as the twins kicking calmed down. She lets out a relieved sigh and steps closer to
A month has passed since I nearly died fighting with Katie to protect Kelly. I was released a few days later, but have been told to take it easy by Kelly. Sully gave me a week off and I've been wearing my bulletproof vest while working.Grace was also released from the hospital, but has regular checkups to continue her treatment. Carrie moved in with Monica on behalf of Grace's wish. The two of them have bonded while I was recovering at home and has brought Carrie and Monica together.During the last week my mother, Kelly's parents, Carrie and Monica went to pick out her dress for our wedding next weekend. Grace stayed with me and we napped together. Kelly found us cuddled in our room when they got back and we weren't downstairs.I woke to Kelly stroking the scar from Katie this morning. She only does it when she has a nightmare about that day and I don't make it. I take her in my arms and she lays her ear over the beat of my chest. Relieved sobs esc
I kept in contact with Caroline this week and she was going to join us at our wedding. Kennedy was even going to be at our wedding and she was bringing Jamie. Kelly spent the night at her parents house to get ready for our wedding. Caroline stayed the night with me and our mother.I was in the middle of doing breakfast when they entered the kitchen. My mother noticed something was wrong and checks the cabinet where I keep my medication. I was so focused with seeing Kelly that I'd forgotten about my medication. My mother brings me over my medication and some water. "Today's not a good day to forget your medicine," she says softly as I take it with shaky hands."I couldn't sleep last night," I say quietly. "Kelly usually strokes the scar that brought us together and it soothes me to sleep. Last night all I saw closing my eyes was the warzone I left years ago.""The house looks cleaner than yesterday," Caroline says quietly looking around the house.&nb
