Chapter 2

Alpha Surge's POV

My life was going on smoothly until I realized that it wasn't as it seemed. There was something that I was missing here that I wasn't able to grasp. Not until it revealed itself to the werewolf packs on a night of the blessed blood moon. What was left is being dethroned. Stripping me of my position as the Alpha of Beast Land would be equivalent to killing me but only faster.

Now I have just one year left to rectify this blind curse. Just one until my name will be erased off the lips of my werewolves. A clan that I guided for over four thousand forty-six years, till this point. But it seemed not to be the case anymore as they thought their feet were firmly rooted to my throne.

I refuse to be forgotten by my creation. That may come after the sweep that I would have for this one year.

"Forgive me, Alpha, your presence is needed urgently."

A soft knock entered my chamber along with that thin voice. It could only belong to one person. Who else would dare disturb my time with my concubines if not her jealous ass?

"It is I, your beta, Emilia."

"Of course it is." My face contorted with fury as I grunted menacingly. The women doing certain things to my nether region stopped when they met my rage. "Continue."

The command was deep but low. The fear gathered in the young women's eyes pushed them to respond hastily, "Yes, Alpha."

As one of the girls went on pampering my cock while the other rode me well, Emilia's voice slipped through again, cracking the rough moans escaping from the mouth of that girl on top of me.

"Are you deaf, Emilia? Get the hell out of there. Return when I'm done."

"Please forgive me, Alpha. The Lunas are in labor. I was told to come get you."

Upon hearing that, one more second didn't meet me in that bed. As I leaped off the bed, I shoved my concubines to the floor. I felt my wolf revolving restlessly. The furs growing on my back spread all over my body as I took strong steps toward the hall. My wolf features stretched out while getting closer to my throne. One sweep at the weary faces in that hall grew my claws.

"It's midnight? Why? I thought it changed after offering the sacrifice to the goddess?" With a heavy heart, I asked the confused elders bowing their heads.

As the silence filled the hall, I grunted menacingly as I sat on my throne that was built in my shape. The elongated tip of the backrest was my face. Then almost immediately I stood up. The panic was so much that it seemed as though there was a fire lit under my seat. All the while I paced around, my eyes never left the half-moon that was gradually turning deep brown.

Then the news came, penetrating my heart pretty hard.

"There are complications, Alpha. But we are–"

"Shut that hole in your face." My deep voice echoed in the hall.

The pack doctor trembled as he shrank back into his shell. Slowly, my head moved from side to side as I frustratingly slumped on the seat again. The moon had completely turned brown.

My eyes squeezed shut as I let out a silent shaky sigh. "No. Not again. Not two this time, mother goddess. What is this?" My slightly trembled hand went over my face.

A tear dropped from my eyes. Before I could catch it, it landed on the floor. Where the tear dropped bubbled as it melted that spot.

This was a night that I thought I could escape after performing such an intense sacrifice to goddess Cothex. Her wrath burned my thoughts. Still, I needed to hear directly from the doctor's mouth.

"Speak." Without opening my eyes my command went to the pack doctor. The Lunas didn't make it?" With my head still down, the words were forced out.

The rough beat of their hearts carried enough fear. The elders of the council, including the pack doctor, prostrated before me. In unison, they roared the painful words, "We lay our sincere condolences to you, Alpha Surge."

"What are their sexes?"

The pack doctor then spoke, "They were male pups, Alpha." His voice shook. "They were healthy, but then a minute after their birth, their blood dried up before their little hearts and body turned to–to stone…just like the others."

It was a recurring nightmare for me. I couldn't control my wolf any further. With rage rushing through my veins I watched my beast emerge. The spikes ripping my flesh came first. Everyone present violently trembled when they witnessed the rare height of my beast. My canine head was almost touching the tall ceiling. This time, I could say I was more than twenty feet tall in my wolf form. Which was extremely rare.

Many times, I found it difficult to keep things down because of my age since I was drawing closer to the end of my time on earth. My wolf had become more agitated by the known and it craved blood. The human blood. So I knew that the town's people wouldn't be able to have that sleep tonight.

"This is wrong, mother goddess. This is fucking wrong." In my wolf form, I knocked anything in my way as I matched out of the hall.

My steps shook the building when I took to the race. Tearing into the wild while howling my heart out. The pain was excruciating. Just as I raced some more distance, I spotted a faint light coming from a tent set up on my land. When I sniffed, I growled when the smell of a foolish human slipped in.

"You have met your end for trespassing into my territory. You are gonna be my punching bag tonight, you idiot."

All that filled my head was ripping apart anything as I raced under that brown moon. The brown moon burned my eyes when I looked at its glaring beam. Another period of pain was no joke at all. I thought I had succeeded in driving that darkness away before I left this world for good.

"That scent." I forced the words out as I slowed to a stop in front of the tent.

The mild sweet scent filling the air was just too familiar. It got stronger when I ripped it open. For a moment, I froze. It couldn't be possible. I personally burned and scattered that ash…right here if I should think hard about it. Confusion washed over me as I snarled for understanding of what was going on.

"What kind of fucked up coincidence is this?" I asked myself as I stared wide-eyed at the cowering girl.

She was clutching a big backpack against her chest. Amongst other things she stuffed in her backpack, there was only one glowing so brightly when I scanned it with my rare vision. When she foolishly extended her arm to grab something near a deflating bed, the glowing tube or something like that, rolled off through the open zipper. But before I could take my eyes off completely as I reached for the girl's face, I crushed something beneath my feet.

I glanced down. It was that little tube containing the glowing liquid. "What the…" Stunned, I watched the glowing blue liquid fussing into my body.

Suddenly I felt a series of pain flood my whole body. It was so intense that I dropped heavily to the ground. Screeching as the pain becomes more unbearable. My hands clutched my head as I thrashed on the ground. I felt my wolf fight with my human form all the while the ear splitting cries rose to the sky. I felt as if my bones were being crushed.

Then after a while, as thunder rumbled in the distance, my heart pounded. I breathed heavily as I weakly got up from the ground. One thing that got me puzzled was the lightness I felt the moment my feet touched the ground. It was different from my usual fatigue. But when I looked at my hands and feet, I gasped at the change.

"What is this? What's going on here?" I frantically touched my body.

Touching every single part of it to see a distant and lost resemblance. How could this be happening? As my eyes darted around, thinking of what to make of this witchcraft, my eyes fell on a tiny mirror sitting on the bed. Fear filled my lungs when I reached for it with my shaky hands.

"You need to look at your reflection, Surge. You must look."

Even my voice changed. There was no way I wouldn't look. So I clenched my jaw and flipped the mirror. As soon as my eyes met my reflection, I snapped them shut. After a little while I opened my eyes again and gathered the courage to look. It was the old version of me that I didn't wanna go back to.

The old me that I so craved to drop after my death.

"No. I can't do this again. This can't be happening to me." I thrust my face backward and violently howled these words, "What is this, mother goddess. What trick are you playing with my head?"

Later still, I got off the ground, wiped my face, and menacingly contorted it. "That girl…That black witch."

The thought of that human that I met in the tent took over my senses as I picked her scent. She must have performed black magic on me, I told myself. Without thinking twice, I sprinted through the vast grassy land, trailing the scent she left for me.

"I shall deal with you, witch." I huffed and puffed.

Luckily for me, she had just gotten to the edge of the cliff. In just a split second, I grabbed her by the back of her neck and yanked her back before she fell overhead. Her weight was like a leaf when I pulled her off the ground.

"Surge?"

That was Ethan's voice. I snapped my head to the side and noticed he was with the council elders. Since they were all naked, it was clear they shifted to their wolf form to search for me.

"How did this happen?" Ethan asked with a puzzled face with a hint of disappointment. He hid it well but not from me.

The others were no different. They stared at me as if they had seen death itself. It wasn't all lies because my young self was packed with torture that was way worse than death. And since it seemed like they would have to repeat my reign all over again…who wouldn't be shaking?

"Take this black witch and lock her up in the darkest dungeon." I tossed the human girl over to my nephew who stood frozen.

"I didn't-I didn't... Please just let me go. I'm sorry for coming in here."

That was the first time that girl spoke audibly. Her voice was also the same. I shut my eyes and pushed the distracting thoughts off my head. Including the noisy chatters from the council members.

"Did you hear what I just said, Ethan? Get this thing out of my sight before I squeeze the fucking life off you."

Ethan rushed forward. He grabbed the girl by her hair and dragged her through the grass as she screamed. Begging for her life that has just been thrown into my boiling pan of hot oil. Then I turned to face the council members. They gasped and abruptly stopped their discussion.

"I want to see everyone in that hall for an urgent meeting." I hardened my voice while I continued, "Bring along my babies that turned to stone."

"Yes, Alpha..."
