Beckoned

Alden was about to leave when the king called him.

"Don't go, Alden." The king beckoned.

He waited till everyone left.

"I know you've been receiving the notes too."

Alden was shocked. The king was very intuitive.

How did he know?

"What did yours say?" He asked smiling at the surprise on Alden's face when he spoke about the notes.

It confirmed his suspicion.

"It says I'm next." Okay, so the both of them were targets. 

He was the king, while Alden was the rightful heir. So if they were removed out of the way, they'd be able to reign.

The person was after the throne, he realized.

They needed to treat this matter with wisdom in order to fish out him, or her and whoever they are working with.

"Brendan was poisoned." He told Alden.
