Chapter 79: Acting

Calvin felt he had never slept so well before. Despite the pain in his hand, the injury was insignificant compared to the favorable situation at hand. Bella, however, was not in as good spirits. She had stayed up all night watching over him and finally fell asleep at the edge of the bed at dawn, only to be woken up shortly after by the sound of the doctor making rounds. Calvin now had to act like a resolute and disabled man who was blind and injured. Although he felt a bit sorry for Bella, he had to pretend not to notice her fatigue and worry.

Dr. Jason, just like last night, flipped through the medical records and asked some basic questions: How was the wound feeling? Did he still feel dizzy? Could he see yet? Bella listened intently, especially tense when it came to questions about his eyes. Calvin leaned against the headboard, rubbing his brow, and answered in an extremely weary voice, "I can't see."
