CH94 - Dereck's POV
The wait for Kai’s return was hard on everyone, not just me. Yet we knew better than to rush in and find ourselves at a disadvantage. We couldn’t just go around and yet heading into a potential trap was foolish.
Shifting on the spot, I couldn’t help but want to dash forward and say screw the risks. It wasn’t until Kai came speeding around the corner that I realised he was being chased.
I rushed towards him, catching his pursuer off guard when they caught sight of a bigger, stronger alpha in front of him. There was only this one male, but he was almost as large as me.
He snarled and lowered his head, before realising it wasn’t just me and Kai he had to contend with, but a vast group of fighters.

If there was one thing I knew about Vukasin, it was that he wanted me dead far more than any other alpha in this area. So much so, he would let his guard down and bring a majority of his warriors to me. I brought enough of my pack to give a sense of urgency, but few enough he might think he would have an advantage. The rest I left with Dereck and Kai’s group. With the other pack now part of ours too, we could easily flank Vukasin and his pack here. The only risk was if one of Vukasin’s other pack members caught them and sent out an alarm before they could reach us. However, there had been no sign of anyone having caught them so far. That gave me faith they could do what I needed of them. “You were a fool to think you could bring your pack here to kill me,” Vukasin growled threateningly at me. He lowered his gaze and snarled. “I don’t see your precious little whore, though. Kept him safe in bed, did you? A shame. I wouldn’t have minded playing with him again.”
Subduing the Alpha CH96 - Kai's POV
The sound of my pounding heart rings in my ears as I lead my group further through the streets and roads. At first, we had been on edge when there had been a severe lack of people here. That was until we almost ran into a guard patrol. Now we had to take a long way around this hellish place. I knew we had little time left, but things weren’t going according to plan. The patrols were not as extensive as they probably would have been, but they were still to be avoided at all costs. Dereck should have caught up with us by now too, yet he hadn’t. That had me worried sick about him, but I couldn’t turn back or wait for him now. Cedric and the other half of the pack needed us. I’m sure he won his fight and will join us soon. I just need to have faith in him. Nearing a corner, I cautiously poke my head out to check for any signs we’re not alone. My ears flicker as I listen out for the sound of footsteps, but so far, things appear quiet. I believe we’re going in the right direction, though.
Subduing the Alpha CH97 - Kai's POV
Despite the cramps in my sides, I push onwards. I’ve finally lost that fool who kept chasing me, but now I’ve delayed returning to Dereck’s small group by quite some time. There has been no sign of them yet and I fear they’re still fighting or something else has delayed them.I perk my ears forward and listen out for any signs of the others. I was sure I had left them around here somewhere. There are no familiar sounds of battling anywhere near me.I glance around for something familiar. Had I taken the wrong turn earlier? Or had they fled the area? Dereck would have tried losing them at some point, but would he have gone so far in the wrong direction?I want to call out to them, but there could still be enemies around here somewhere. Instead, I lower my head to the ground. If I can find even a trace of their scent, then that’ll lead me in the right direction. I was sure I had seen my mate when the second group had flanked our enemy, yet now I couldn’t see him anywhere. I had forced Vukasin back against the others, but now he had gotten out of my reach. Yet despite that, the continuous fighting meant I couldn’t leave to find out where Kai had run off to.Sinking my fangs into the neck of a rival warrior, I waited for them to stop squirming before I pulled my maw away again. We had the advantage, and I knew we would win, yet not seeing Kai anywhere had me distracted. Was he safe? Or perhaps he had been forced to retreat for now?And speaking of mates, where was Dereck? He should have been with the group, too. I hastily looked around, but couldn’t see him anywhere either. Two others were missing as well. The old luna and alpha from Silver-Sun pack. As I turned the corner, it seemed Dereck had gained the upper hand on the ones attacking him, but Rohn wasn’t fairing as well. He was old, though still putting up a fight. However, I realised something was wrong. Had they injured him in the fight? Whatever the reason was, he seemed almost lethargic. That’s when I realised what the problem was.Rohn must have known his mate was near death when she left his side, but if he had known of the exact moment she had died, I wasn’t sure. I heard tales of that being the case before but had never experienced it. If one could know the moment their mate died, then I was sure Cedric was still alive.Feeling there was hope, I charged forward and helped Rohn with the foe he was currently dealing with. Dereck would be fine for a while, but the old alpha would not survive against this young warrior for much longer.Just as the enemy was about to strike, I barreled into their side, knocking them off balance tempo

The pounding of my heart would not cease. I was exhausted, but we couldn’t stop even after we fought back the enemy. Their regrouping didn’t take long either after the two I had distracted had returned. However, with Joey’s help, the group thought twice about renewing the fight directly.There might have only been four of us, but we were formidable in our own ways and the enemy seemed to have understood that. However, they were not about to give up and walk away. They hounded us with each movement on our way back to the other group. They gave us no choice but to fend them off again and again. At this rate, we would be too tired to be of any help to Cedric and the others.Joey once more forced the last of our pursuers away from us before backing into the safety of our small group. “We need to rest,” he told us as he looked towards Rohn. “But if we rest, they will hound us even more. This fight has gone on for far too long, but I hadn’t expected it to be so easy. Even with the others flanking our enemy from the other side, this isn’t a straightforward battle. Vukasin has escaped my claws once again, though he hasn’t gotten far from me this time. However, I now have to deal with one of his warriors before I can continue my battle with him.I’m starting to think Vukasin is trying to tire me out by forcing me to fight as many of his warriors as he can throw at me. It is a cunning plan. To make me so tired that he can beat me easier. However, I know what he is trying to do, so I do the same. I have a warrior battle with him in return.I have to hand it to him. Vukasin is a formidable foe. However, dragging this fight out like this only makes it worse for both sides. We’ve already lost a fair number of warriors each and I can bet more lives will be lost. That might be an acceptable sacrifice to Vukasin, but not to me.
Subduing the Alpha CH102 - Kai's POV
I knew it would be risky to do this myself, but I couldn’t find anyone nearby that would be a better fit for this task. Going back to find Dereck or Joey would waste too much time and we couldn’t afford to wait any longer. We would miss our chance to end this quickly if I messed around trying to find and free up someone stronger.I watched Cedric chase Vukasin until he could guide him in the direction I had suggested. I knew my plan would work. It just meant I had to be careful when blocking the opposite way. I was sure I could distract him long enough for Cedric to do what he needed to do, it was just a matter of making sure he couldn't slip past me easily.Darting through the crowd of fighting werewolves, I find my way out of the chaos. Finally, I reached the spot before Cedric and Vukasin could reach it. I have a couple of things to do before they get here, but it wouldn't take me long at all.Transforming back into my human form, I grab the large industrial bins that I had spotted
