I stepped out of the elevator and turned right, heading down to Kate’s apartment at the end of the hall.

I was excited to see her again, after not seeing her for such a long time. She knew I was back in the States, but she didn't know I was on my way to her apartment right now.

I knocked solidly three times and waited for Kate to open the door. She did so without hesitation and stood there; the shock written all over her face.

Her right hand whipped up over her mouth and she stared at me with wide eyes, as I stood there grinning from ear to ear.

My surprise had been effectively carried out. "Gonna invite me in?" I asked with a smile.

The next minute she squealed and threw the door widely opened, and then flung herself on me, screaming the entire time.

I vaguely wondered what her neighbors in the other apartments would think, even as I hugged her back and squeezed, trying to imprint her body shape on mine.
