Chapter 4

As the days went on, Emerald's sufferings never stopped. Emerose would visit their mansion from time to time only to hurt her physically and emotionally. The young Morgan didn't know why her sister was like that to her, and this started when she was a kid. All her life, she thought she was lucky to have someone like her who would be her companion. But as she grew older, she realized that her sister was far from being a companion. She's her adversary, her demise.

Besides her sister, Jace is an addition to her suffering and agony. The man she thought would be with her through thick and thin had neglected and mistreated and hurt her. Emerald fulfills her duty to her husband within a month of being married. He would mouth fuck her and humiliate her at the same time. He would tell her nasty and dirty words. But the young Morgan was still hopeful that everything she was doing would end as her husband would realize her worth.

"Get dressed, and we will attend a party," Jace told her. Emerald looked at her husband in disbelief. She never thought that he would even think of bringing her to any gatherings he would be attending. With a happy heart, she went to her bedroom and started to clean up herself. She wanted to appear beautiful so Jace would never feel embarrassed for bringing her with him.

Emerald was done bathing and drying her hair when Jace came into her bedroom and handed her two boxes, which she took silently. "Wear that," he said as he looked at her intently. He roamed her eyes all over her body as young Morgan was only in her towel, making her husband feel the need to touch her. "And do it fast!" he added, annoyed, before leaving her bedroom.

'I should be simple and decent since it was a formal gathering. I didn't want my husband's business partner to think that I am nothing but a worthless wife,' Young Morgan thought while she applied her makeup. It was very light since she wasn't used to cosmetics. Once satisfied, she took the other box that Jace gave her and took out her shoes. She smiled, thinking her husband made an effort to buy her what she needed.

The beautiful-looking Emerald went down to the living room and met Jace, but to her dismay, Emerose was also there with him, wearing a gorgeous gown. Although she looked elegant in her dress, she thought her sister was more stunning than her.

Meanwhile, Jace couldn't help but look at his wife. He was stunned to see how simple Emerald was but very attractive. His face hardened, and he thought it was her ability to attract men to cheat and then leave them.

Emerose, on the other hand, noticed how Jace looked at her younger sister. She was sure that Jace liked what he saw even though Emerald was wearing an effortless dress compared to what she was wearing now. "Let's go?" the eldest Morgan asked before taking Jace's hand. Emerald's eyes landed on her sister and husband's hands, which are now intertwined.

"Excuse me," the young Morgan said before getting between Jace and Emerose. She will never let her sister stay beside her husband. She's Mrs. Higginson, so she has to be with Jace.

"What do you think you're doing?" Jace asked, shoveling her hands and making Emerald's mouth hang open. She looked at her sister and found her smirking. "Let's go, Emerose," her husband added before taking her sister's hand.

"Why are you taking her hand instead of mine?" Emerald couldn't help but ask. She was hurt and feeling betrayed by her husband.

"I didn't ask you to come to become my date; I am bringing you to the party so that you'll see what I do there," Jace replied, confusing Emerald. She didn't understand what she had to see there. Before she could ask, Jace and Emerose started walking to the door, so she had no choice but to follow them.

Emerald felt a fang of pain when she saw Jace open the backseat door for her sister—something he didn't do to her when they arrived at the mansion. "Sit in front," Jace commanded before getting in the backseat with Emerose. Young Morgan had no choice but to get in the car. They started driving and arrived at the venue in no time.

There was a red carpet, and Emerald started to wonder if she would be going there as well. "Open the door, Emerald." Jace's commanding voice made her look back at him.

"What?" she asked. She wanted to make sure that she heard him right.

"Open the damn door!" Jace shouted, which startled her, so she got out of the car and did as she had been told.

Jace got out of the car and offered his hand to Emerose, which she took happily and gave her little sister a smirk. "Close the door," Higginson whispered, making sure it reached his wife's ears.

'Is this the reason why he brought me with him?' Emerald asked herself. She doesn't understand what she did to her husband to deserve all the nasty things he had done to her. 'Why did you choose me if you will only do this to me, Jace?' she asked, looking at her husband and sister, who were walking on the red carpet while holding their hands. She was about to turn and get back in the car when the flashing camera stopped her. She looked back and realized that photographers had been taking her photo. Something she didn't like, so she covered her face with her hands and got in the car immediately.

"Ma'am, are you sure you didn't want to attend that gathering?" the driver asked. Emerald nodded without even looking at him. Her thoughts were on her husband, whom she thought was very happy introducing her sister to everyone. Her heart clenched, thinking about how the people in the gathering would think about the two, making her tears cut down her cheeks.

Emerald tried to hold her tears, but she was too hurt and too painful to think about her husband ignoring her, neglecting her as if she were nothing. She never dreamed of having a family because of what her sister and their mother always told her: that she was unworthy and ugly and that no one would ever love her. But after Jace chose her, she became the happiest woman on earth.

She thought that what her sister and mother had told her wasn't true, that God had something in store for her. But everything went to waste when she came with Jace, and they lived together. Since she wasn't needed anymore, Emerald decided to leave. But before she could do that, she received a call from her husband. "Where the hell are you?" Jace asked angrily.

"In the parking lot." She answered, trying not to choke on her saliva. She didn't want her husband to know that she had been crying.

"What the fuck are you doing there? Didn't I tell you that I brought you here to look at what I had been doing?" Jace asked again. "Come here at once!" he shouted. Emerald sighed deeply before she opened the car door and went out. She didn't even notice their driver, who had been giving her facial tissue to wipe her face.

There were many people at the event, and Emerald could tell that they were all wealthy and influential people in the country. She roamed her eyes around to look for Jace, and after a few minutes, she found him. He had his back on her, but she knew that it was him. It was because he loved her so much that she would be able to know her husband even if she had her eyes closed.

She started walking towards him when he turned, and their eyes met. Emerald thought that the world had stopped spinning, and there were only her and Jace. She felt at that moment that they were meant to be. Young Morgan was about to smile, but a woman approached Jace and kissed him on the lips. It was a long and torrid kiss. She felt envious that she hadn't experienced how he kissed since he had never done that with her.

Everyone clapped, which startled Emerald. She blinked many times to prevent her tears from falling. 'I'm in front of him. I shouldn't show him that I feel defeated,' she thought.

Jace looked around and smiled before he pulled the woman closer to him again and kissed her while his eyes were on Emerald. Young Morgan tried her best to harden her heart so she wouldn't get affected by what she was seeing. Then she thought about Emerose and started to look for her sister. 'She should be the one who was with him.' she thought. 'But isn't it better than seeing Emerose and Jace kissed instead?'

Because Jace turned his back on her, and Emerald thought she had already witnessed what her husband wanted her to see, she turned her back as well to go back to the parking lot. "Little sister," she heard Emerose calling her, so she stopped. "I want to go to the restroom. Help me find where it is," she added when they were closer.

"Why don't you find it yourself?" Emerald asked.

"Do you want me to tell this to Jace?" Emerose asked threateningly. Young Morgan didn't want to anger her husband anymore, so she followed her sister and looked for the restroom. "Get back to me when you find one," Emerose said, smirking.

Emerald went to look for a restroom. The event venue was so big that she found it hard to find one. When she thought she did, she decided to check on it. She was on her way back to Emerose when two men stopped her. She felt scared, but she tried not to show it. "Look what we have here. Isn't she a beauty?" one of the men asked, grinning.

"Emerose said that the woman would be ugly." the other man replied,

"If this woman is ugly, then there's no beautiful in this world."

'It was Emerose? She planned this?' Emerald asked herself. Out of fear, the young Morgan decided to pass to them, but they didn't let her. They grabbed her by her arms and started touching her in every part of her body. She screamed and screamed, but she didn't think someone would hear her because of the noise that came from the event. Despite that, she still tried her best and kicked the men, making them lose their grip on her.

She went to where Emerose was to confront her. 'There's no way I will let her ruin me completely.' She thought furiously.

"Did you find the restroom?" her sister asked, smiling when she saw her approaching.

"Why, why did you do that? How could you tell those men to harm me?" Emerald asked. Emerose started acting confused.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Is that how much you didn't want to do me a favor? It's just a restroom." her sister said, making the other people around them look at them, including Jace.

"You planned it. Those men said so." Emerald said, about to grab Emerose, but her sister acted like she was being pushed and fell. Young Morgan was too stunned; she didn't think that her sister was capable of doing anything to get her in trouble.

"What is about Emerald?" Jace asked and approached Emerose, who was still crying on the floor. He helped her get up and glared at his wife before they started walking away. As Emerose passed the stunned Emerald, she pushed her and made it appear that no one noticed that she did it purposely.

Emerald, who was not ready and unaware, fell to the table next to her, making everything in it fall on her, including the cake. Cameras started flashing again while the pitiful young Morgan covered herself with her arms as she watched her husband leave with her sister in his arms, feeling humiliated, hurt, and heartbroken.
