CHAPTER 06

Melissa stood, her hands glued to her side as she stared at Alex.

Silence ensued as they stared at each other.

Looking at his jet-black hair and those lovely eyes that she once adored, Melissa felt repulsed.

She couldn't guess why but the memories of the last three years came rushing into her mind and she could remember it as though it happened the day before.

She could remember how he had mercilessly stabbed her in the heart by rejecting her and how hard she had cried under the rain of that cold and dark night.

Strangely enough, the memories were even more painful than she had imagined. It would have been a different kind of pain if Alex wasn't there, but right there, he was seated - the cause of her pain and sorrow.

"How long has it been Melissa, three, four, five years?" He demonstrated with his fingers.

Somehow Melissa felt disappointed. How could he not remember how many years it had been that he rejected her?

But it sure meant one thing and she was happy about it. He didn't have a clue that she birthed his child.

Melissa maintained her composure and tightened her fingers around her purse as she walked and went to sit on the available seat.

"We should separate business from personal life, shouldn't we?" She cocked her head to the side.

"I came here to receive my award and where is Mrs. Camila?" She asked rhetorically.

Alexander scoffed and looked at her. She looked pretty as ever but he hated her to the core.

He hated her for all the hard times she had caused him because he loved her these three years, he loved none else but her.

He had expected her to shed tears on seeing him and beg for forgiveness but here she was acting like she didn't care - changing the topic.

"Does it look like a joke to you?" Alex slammed his fist on the table and got up in full rage.

Something snapped inside of him and it was his wolf telling him to calm down. Something he didn't understand because his wolf was usually angry each time he was angry.

He tried reading the expression on her face but her face was pan-flat, showing no emotion. He even tried to mindlink her but it was impossible. He had lost the mate bond the moment he rejected her.

Melissa remained unfazed, seated on the chair, calm as ever.

He looked at Melissa and her silence was frustrating him. The fact that she was quiet when he was mad at her made him want to cause her pain.

Only when she felt real pain, he thought, was she going to truly repent for what she did to him years back.

"Hello, Ma'am," Melissa spoke into the receiver.

"Yes, I'm so sorry Miss, something came up and I couldn't make it but there's someone there to attend to you." Mrs. Camila said the last part, not sounding as apologetic as when she had started.

Melissa brought down her hands and fixed her sight on Alex.

"I guess my time is up here, can I have my award?"

Alex scoffed.

"So now you realize that you getting your award is right on my palms. For your information, I'm not handing it over to a whore like you." He eyed her with disdain.

The moment Melissa saw Alex, she expected insults from him but she didn't expect his words to break her like this.

"Whore? What exactly is my crime?"

Alex was glad he had gotten her to the point he wanted her to be. He enjoyed seeing the pain shoot out from her eyes, after all, she deserved it.

"Is that all you know me as? Cheat, whore? Did you think I cheated on you?

She shook her head sideways and continued

…"You know, I thought that with the years that passed, you could stop being an asshole and get back to your senses but I guess I was wrong.

I'm not a whore and I will never be simply because you called me one. To hell with the award and as far as it's coming from you, I'd rather be a loser for life."

Melissa clutched tightly to her purse, stood up, and without a last glance walked out through the door. She could pretend it didn't hurt in front of him but his words opened her almost healed wound, causing fresh pain.

Immediately she was outside, she broke down and cried but the next minute she wiped her tears. She wanted to be strong for herself and her baby.

Alex's office was on the apex floor of the building but he had a floor-to-wall transparent glass window from which he would look down.

With his hands behind his back, he walked towards the glass and looked down.

He was about to go back to his seat when he sighted Melissa and halted.

As Melissa walked out of the company, she saw a car with a man standing beside it, a close distance from where she stood.

She was about to start walking away when she recognized the man as one of Kristen's men and she smiled.

The young man gently opened the door, letting her in, after which he came around to the other side and drove off.

Alex saw all this and his curiosity grew to the peak as he watched the car drive away.

His stomach churned from what he had seen and he twisted his lips into an ugly frown.

He sighed as the feelings of hatred and jealousy fought for dominance over him.

He went back to his seat and sat.

With legs crossed upon the other, he said,

"I'll make you pay for hurting my feelings Melissa, I'll make it so painful you'll beg for mercy."

Just then, Killian, his Beta, rasped a knock on the door.

Alexander didn't give a reply, but Killian knew his silence meant he probably wanted him to come in, so he took the risk, opened the door, and walked in.

"The business went down well thanks to the plan but they requested your presence in their next meeting."

Alex nodded his head to show that he acknowledged Killain's words.

Killian looked at Alex and discovered something different today. Even though it was a raise at the corners of his lips and it didn't look too genuine, it was something to brag about.

Alex was smiling. Could it be that…. No, it couldn't be what he was thinking.

"Is there something you would have me do?." Killian asked, his job was to assist the Alpha after all and he wanted to create a level of trust with him.

"I met Melissa today," Alex announced and he could guess Killain's reaction.

"Just before you say a word I need you to find out something," Alex said.

"I'm all ears Alpha."

"Find out who came here with her and know everyone she has a connection with and make the report tomorrow."

"Yes, Alpha."

Killian said and started out. He had to make haste with the investigation, Alex didn't like his time wasted.
