THE WITNESS

Like a deer caught in the headlights, Emily sat back and watched Ronnie explain in detail how Edmund hired him to monitor what she used her computer to do from the day she was employed in the firm.

He went on to tell her that he'd successfully hacked into her system and was giving weekly reports to Edmund on what she did with it.

At the end of it all, Emily could not readily find her voice. What maddened her the most was that the whole time, she saw Edmund as a friend, someone she could trust whereas he was probably laughing at her behind her back and thinking of what a fool she was.

And she was indeed a fool. How could she miss the signs that Edmund was onto her? Surely, if she had looked more inwards instead of comfortably enjoying the treats that he gave her, she would have noticed that something was not right. But it was too late to retrace her steps now. Or was it?

"How much exactly have you told Edmund?" She found herself asking Ronnie.
