I went to visit my mum immediately after I returned from my vacation with Mr Winston.

To her, it was protocol to call me once every week and since I had been missing for the past two months, I was sure that she must have been running out of her mind with worry.

She attacked me at her doorstep, tackling me into a hug and it wasn't until I felt her warm, wet tears on my neck before I realized that she was crying.

I closed my eyes, burying my face into her hair and hugged her back tenderly.

When she let me go, her eyes were red and filled to the brim with tears. "Oh," she cried. "Oh, Maddie. I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry."

She ushered me into her home and sat with me on the plosh couch in the living room.
