Chapter 53

Alexander's soft voice calling my name snapped me out of my trail of thoughts. I turned my attention away from the bleak hospital room and locked gazes with him. He stood there, holding a bag of takeout from a nearby restaurant. My heart skipped a beat. Finally, a taste of an actual delicious food after two long days of the slurp served in the hospital.

A smile crept across my face as he approached, his eyes filled with concern. "Hey, Emma," he said gently. "I thought you might be tired of hospital food, so I brought you something different."

I couldn't hide my delight. "You have no idea how grateful I am, Alex. Hospital food is like a never-ending punishment." I expressed with pouted lips.

He chuckled and handed me the take out bag. The aroma of freshly cooked food wafted into the sterile room, instantly awakening my senses. I peeked inside to find a delicious assortment of dishes that made my mouth water.
