Being sick and almost at death's door must have changed her a lot. Even though she looked pale, she still had a bright smile on her face.

It was a sight that I thought I would never get to see.

"Thank you Leslie, you are the best. You don't know how I have been craving for this but mom wouldn't agree to get it for me," Lauren said and pouted her lips at mom.

Mom shrugged her shoulders and looked away.

"Feeling guilty?" Lauren teased me.

"Don't be silly. It was for your own good." Mom replied and we laughed.

I handed mom and box of chocolates I got for her.

"But you know you already brought enough yesterday." Mom smiled at me.

"I'm not complaining, am I?" I asked and shrugged my shoulders.

"Thank you." Mom beamed at me while I smiled.

I helped Lauren unbox the cake and placed it on the table that was with the hospital bed.

I helped her sit on the bed properly. I put a pillow at her back to support her back and make her comfortable.
