CHAPTER FORTY TWO

As I walk toward Rory's place, I mutter, "Please don't be stood in jeans without a top on," and then I smile.

When he finally opens his door, I am relieved to see that he is wearing all his clothes, and I sigh with gratitude. It is more secure this way. I had no intention of having sexual relations with him tonight because it is possible that he has already had sexual relations with Jennifer, and I am not a fan of double-dipping.

"Can I get you a drink?" As I sit at his kitchen table, he poses the question. His home is toasty and pleasant, and it exudes an air of invitation thanks to the lit lamps and the low volume of the television in the background.

I usually respond with, "A coffee will do." "This evening's wine consumption is complete. I can't afford to lose my composure at this point.

He is standing behind the refrigerator and looks up at me before shrugging. "All right, I'll have a coffee. However, I would like to have a beer if that is okay with you.

"No way, just get on with
