Standing in front of it was Amanda. I frowned. What was the witch doing here now?

"Can I come in?" she asked. I tried to keep my facial expression neutral so that she would not suspect that I knew anything. "Come in," I said.

We both entered the room, and then I pointed to a chair for her.

The moment she sat down on it, I attacked her with a question. "What do you want?" It was only after saying it that I wondered whether I might have been too sharp.

"I just wanted to talk about something," she said calmly.

"Well, it was obvious that she wanted to talk. Talk about what? What do you want?" I asked my question once again.

"Are you not going to make me feel welcome first?" she asked.

I shook my head. "If you're not ready, then you might as well leave." I knew I was definitely sounding rude by now, but I could not hold my true emotions in any longer.
