Ethan stepped into the pool house, his eyes on his wife.

He looked from me to Ruby, to my hand that was still on Ruby's wrist, then back to Ruby's face. I imagined myself in his shoes, coming home from work and seeing my Chlorine allergic brother leaning over the pool and holding my wife's hand whose jaw was wide with surprise.

I came to the conclusion the same time he did.

"No. This is not what you think it is," I said and he raised both eyebrows, turning an accusatory glance on me.
