Then came my survival...

Jasmine's pov

"I'm sorry that I couldn't make it back on time. I got into some trouble," I said when I walked inside my room and went to my space. I landed heavily on my soft bed. Unlike outside and in the woods, the inside was warm. My trembling body basked in the warmth of the room and the comfy-ness of my bed. It was a miracle that I didn't break my leg from that fall. What happened to the lights anyways?

A satisfying moan left my mouth.

"Why do you look so tired? And what are all these scratches on your hand?" Miranda questioned and walked to my side of the room to inspect my hands.

I didn't even notice that I had scratches.

"Where— what scratches?" I asked with anxiety. I turned my hand so that my elbow was now up, and immediately my face turned sour.

"What happened to you? Where were you?"

"In the woods. I got chased for hours. Two fucking hours"  I exclaimed before chugging down a liter of water down my throat like it was booze. It's not like I could drink a liter of alcohol on the go anyways.

"What? ... Why?" Fleshy fear circled her tone as she spoke. "Is it about your kind— I mean the people that chased you, were they wolves?"

"Yes, they were. "

"Why would they chase you for that long?"

"I unintentionally broke the law, again," I replied while uncorking a keg of chilled unsweetened strawberry and vanilla flavored yogurt. My bones were aching with tremendous pain, and I needed to chill out a bit. I'm suddenly sweltering instead of warm. And I needed a long, long rest.

"Why didn't you explain and tell them it was unintentional instead of passing through the stress and other dangers of running for two hours. What if you were caught? What would you have done?"

"Well, for one, I wasn't caught, and secondly, my kind is not allowed to do things unintentionally. Everything is supposed to be orderly, intentional, and purposeful. No mistakes"

"Then why did you allow yourself to commit a mistake? You could have been more careful."

"But I wasn't.."

"Why?"

"Just because..."

Mira knew a little about the wolves' religion and regulations. Aside from the general rule that governed all four wolf kingdoms with the humans, a more strict and somewhat secretive control system existed for the wolves. Mira only knows what other humans know. After all, they were all humans. The knowledge she had about wolves was from the stories I told her, which were barely opaque—just flimsy stories about wolves and werecats.

Most times, she asked questions regarding vampires, but I wouldn't know what answer to reply with or see a couple of meaningful words to throw at her for the very least.

Mom would always reproach and reprimand me for asking her whenever I did. She said vampires are an abomination and shouldn't be discussed within the four walls of the wolf's kingdom.

I met Mira when I first came to college. My initial thought before meeting her was that I'd be a total lone wolf in this kingdom of me, but everything changed when I met her. We met in what happened to be our favorite cafe store, and we bonded over a cup of coffee and sugarless doughnuts. Since then, not only had she become my roommate, but also my best friend.

A human best friend.

"Just because..." She said frantically.

"I really cannot tell you what it was. It is kind of like a taboo for me to do so" I started but quickly retracted my voice when I saw her facial expression.

"Uh, okay. " I groaned, and she adjusted her seat on my bed. Bulb of light shone when she gave that bright smile of hers. I chuckled then began to speak.

"I broke a law I wasn't supposed to break because its punishment might be severe or capital," I whispered as I rubbed the nape of my neck.

Now, the punishment for legally breaking into another wolf's territory Is that your former and original pack would banish you from your pack, which will automatically turn you into a rogue or a lone wolf, as the case may be. No kingdom would harbor a rogue wolf as its own, regardless of the species or gender. Plus, it would be harder for me because I was the Alpha's child. What would people think or say when they find out that the Alpha's child was the one breaking rules?

Of course, I'd find a way to have my track covered because if I don't, sooner than later, I would be fished out. It would have to be discreet, though. My mother is great friends with the packing queen,  Luna Bella. I would probably talk to my mother to beg the queen on my behalf, who would, in turn, speak to her husband, the Alpha, and hopefully, my sins would be waived.

"Is it that bad? Like, is the punishment that bad? " Mira questioned.

"Hmm," I shuddered.

"Then I think you should call your parents and narrate to them all that happened. Let them know it was a mistake before the matter went out of control. What if the said wolves track you down to this room. What would you do then?" She suggested with worry laced in her tone?...

I could read her pulse going up. Hell, streaks of sweats were already breaking out of her body. I could feel it.

"No, they won't," I said in an attempt to console her. And it worked because I felt her relaxed. Her breathing became normal. Slow and even. While her pulse also took a slower pace.

"Well then, you should rest. You seem weary."

"Of course. I'm so tired," I said, then yearned lazily.

"There's this soup of natural spices and herbs that my mother normally makes whenever we are drained in the house. I should make some for you. It's delicious," she proposed.

"What soup is that? It's not like I have the flu".

"Don't worry; you'd like it."

A few minutes later, Mira brought the soup, and I was ready to savor the soup. I took a deep breath and slowly opened the lid and then I saw it...
