18. He Came In Like A Wrecking Baaaaaall

I key in the code to the penthouse with a smile on my face. Today was a good day, a better day than most and I got to spend it with my mother. Seeing her smile is everything, knowing she’s healing is even better. This is the best Christmas I’ve had in a long time.

Well, at least it was until I walked into the penthouse.

“What the f…” I trail off when I see the mess. The table at the entryway is toppled over with all Christian’s different car keys strewn about, vases are smashed, furniture laying haphazardly and paintings are ruined. What the hell happened here?

“Christian?” I call softly, hoping there wasn’t some thief here, but I pick up a leg of a broken chair as a weapon anyway. “Christian, are you here?”

My question is answered when I walk into an even worse-looking living room. I hope he had these things insured because damn, everything is virtually ruined.

I spot Christian sprawled out on a living room sofa with one leg over the arm rest. There’s an empty bottle of Jack
