Chapter 9

Artemis Thaleia's Perspective

I stride towards the courtroom with my head held up high. I crouched to take the key to Sin's handcuffs that were attached to the lifeless body of a police officer.

A devilish smile made its way to my lips as my eyes locked in with Sin for a moment.

Sin gave me a smug smile.

This day will be remembered as the great escape of the King of Sins.

I stopped in front of Sin to free him from his handcuffs and leather restraints.

"So, what's it like to be free?" I asked him.

Sin stood up and ripped his orange shirt unceremoniously.  A smile appeared on his lips.

"Good job, Mi Amore," Sin said in a whispering manner before he pulled me towards him.  Our lips met. His lips moved with mine expertly, giving me a new rhythm to follow. Pure bliss sipped through my system as he bit my lower lip, seeking an entrance I gladly gave.

I've kissed different men, and I certainly know that I am good in this field, but doing it with Sin made me feel like a newbie as he dominated me so well.

Sin's expression turned into a serious one as soon as our lips parted.

"Where is my baby?" He asked.

One man from the Miscreant handed him a black Armalite with his initials engraved on it.

The moment he pulled the Armalite's trigger.  Sin's laughter bombarded the room.

My eyes hunted someone whom I knew was still alive.

As if Papa knew that I was looking. He stood up from his hiding spot. Sin also felt Papa's presence.

"Detective, Detective, Detective," Sin chanted as he marched towards Papa's direction.

"Look at her...your angel," Sin said.  Holding the armalite in his left hand. Sin guided his other hand to keep Papa's head turned in my direction.

"She looks different, doesn't she? Artemis Thaleia became an art, a masterpiece created by me and her hatred for you," Sin whispered to Papa, then he licked Isaiah's ear and laughed loudly.

"You motherfucker! I know you're just toying with her! You're manipulating her!" Sin hushed Papa and laughed again.

The fire of anger in Isaiah's eyes gave Sin pleasure and bliss.

"Ouch. That was too harsh of you." Sin held his chest and acted hurt by Isaiah's curses. Within a snap, Sin's persona changes; gone was the playful Sin.

"I'm not playing with her. I'm a loyal man, Detective. I'm loyal to you. You can be sure that you're the only one I'm playing with—" Isaiah tried to kick him, but Sin was fast to catch Papa's leg.  Sin twisted it; then he hit Papa with his Armalite before he pushed Isaiah away from him

"Sin, the chopper awaits you. We have to leave now," Lorcan said before he threw a machine gun at Sin before Lorcan left.

"Now, I want you to remember everything that happened here, Detective Belmont. I'll give you the pleasure of being the only survivor in this massacre," Sin said to Papa before Sin walked away. Not sparing a glance at my father, I  followed Sin, but before we could leave the courtroom, he stopped walking.

"Until we meet again, Detective," Sin blurted out and laughed before he marched his way out of the courtroom.

Sin and I heard an ear-busting noise coming from the helicopter that hadn't landed yet and was only a few meters away from the rooftop.

"I'm sorry, but where are you going, Doctor?" Sin asked as I was about to take a step towards the rope.

"We need to leave now, Sin. Armed forces will be here any moment," My forehead furrowed, and my eyebrows met when Sin suddenly burst out laughing as he shook his head.

"You don't understand it, do you?"  He asked.

"Your part in my plan ends here, Artemis. You're no longer part of it, which means you'll be staying here, and I'll be leaving alone. We're going to separate our ways."

Sin walked to the rope and was about to hold it when I aimed at him with the machine gun in my hand.

Instead of being afraid. Sin's smile widened even more.

"You can't leave me here. I won't let you leave me here!"  I screamed loudly as tears fell from my eyes.

"Sin, I like you — No! Scratch that. I am in love with you!" Sin's face contorted with disgust upon hearing that.

"Love? You're in love with me?!"  He asked hysterically, then laughed, but his eyes were filled with intense anger.  He took three steps, and the distance between us was gone.

I put the gun down.

I cupped his face and stared intently at him.

"I love you."

His finger traced the corner of my jaw.  He removed my hand that was holding his face.

"Love is just an illusion created by people's minds who claim to be feeling that disgusting thing. It does nothing good. Love weakens people. Love is a bridge that when you cross, you'll be a slave of that someone whom you claim to love," Sin explained while walking around me.

"I can be your illusion, but are you willing to become my slave?" Sin asked.

"Yes," I answered without batting an eye. Sin stuck his index finger to my lips and tried to silence me.

"You're beautiful yet terrifying at the same time; like nature itself, go away."  He muttered and walked back to the rope.

Sin was already holding it and was slowly climbing on it when

I pointed the gun at him again.

"Do it, baby girl. Shoot me, can you?"  He asked teasingly with his infamous smile.

"I'm sorry,"  I blurted out and pointed my gun at the helicopter instead.

Sin's men, who were pulling the rope up to get him inside the chopper, let go of the rope, causing Sin to fall back down on the helipad.

I kept shooting shooting at the chopper, aiming for it to explode. The chopper tried to fly away but failed. It exploded in the air and plunged.

Redeeming my composure. I stare back at Sin, who is staring at me with a draw of amusement in his eyes.

"Make me your pawn. Use me anyway you like it, I don't care, but you can't discard me like that, Sin. I'll be part of your plans, of your life until I'm breathing, and you have no choice but to agree."
