JANE'S POV

For all my dreams about him being back, I’m so tired and weary from all the trouble about Olivia that all I can do is collapse in his arms, inhaling his woodsy perfume and that orange tangy smell that always comes from the plane toffee he takes for flights. We stay in that position for about ten minutes, the world going on around us until he pulls away and tugs me towards the car. So much for picking him up, I think as he shuts the passenger door behind me and goes around to the driver’s side.

He strokes the side of my face and I lean into it with a sigh. “Look at those dark circles. My poor baby”, he says, looking my face over. I shake my head as he pulls back his hand and starts the car. “It’s been absolute hell and I don’t feel any better than the moment I found out. How stupid of us to part down there in that dusky space.” I say, voicing the recurring thoughts I’ve had for the past few days.

Alexis stretches a hand over and grabs my thigh. “Stop blaming yourself, babe.
