Chapter 4: From a princess to a waitress

Some weeks later.

Wendy's POV.

"A plate of chicken and chips for table number 5," I yelled the minute I went into the kitchen.

"Aye!" Someone replied. I stepped back out of the kitchen grabbing a tray of wine and two glasses with me. Going to table number five, I dropped it in front of the two men.

"Your order will be ready in less than five minutes," I made my way out of their table to another who was calling for my attention. I took their order and went ahead to the kitchen to make it known to them.

The chicken and chips were ready, I picked it up and took it to the other two. They paid and made their way out since it was a take-out.

I kept moving from the kitchen to the restaurant back to the kitchen, I was beginning to feel dizzy and tired but I dared not sit till all the customers were satisfied.

It wasn't until 10 pm that I finally fell back on one of the chairs, tired and almost giving up. Finally, all the customers were gone.

"Well done, Wendy," Kira smiled at me as she walked over to where I sat. I forced out a smile at her,

"Thanks,"

She was also one of the staff here at the restaurant. Very friendly and happens to be my only friend here at the restaurant where I now work in Chicago.

"Shall we?" She asked and I rolled my eyes, was that a question? I can't wait to get out of here!

I quickly went to the workers’ room to change my uniform back into my casual wear before stepping out with my handbag. We both made our way out saying goodbye to the rest of the staff.

After being disowned by my father, I could only find refuge in the house of a friend of mine called May. She was the only one sweet and kind enough to help me out. The rest of my friends got scared because of what my parents had said to the public.

They didn't want to go to jail, no one did so they just couldn't help. May had helped me because she was preparing to travel to Chicago to further her education. She was kind enough to let me follow her and that was how I ended up in a strange land.

No one knows me to be a princess here and I would like to keep it that way. It would be a disgrace to know that the former princess of Havon kingdom in London was a waitress here in Chicago.

"Alright dear, bye" Kira waved when she got to her final stop and I also waved back at her. She came down from the bus. Soon, it was my stop so I came down as well and made my way to my house.

"Hello," I smiled when I stepped into the house to see May and her aunt in the living room.

We had come to stay with May's aunt here in Chicago, she is the sweetest soul I have ever met. She had been so nice to me and treated me like a daughter.

"Wendy, you're back,"

"Now, we can finally eat dinner," Aunt Linda said before standing on her feet and heading to the kitchen.

I let out a small chuckle as I dropped my bag and followed her to help. I had told them both to always eat without me but they refused saying a family must eat at least dinner together.

After a while, we were all sitting and eating dinner.

"Have you seen the news?" May asked and I shook my head. Even though the TV was always switched on in the restaurant, we didn't have time to see what was going on there. We were too busy

May switched on the television with the remote and I noticed it wasn't Chicago's news she was speaking about but London's news. What happened?

"Havon kingdom has been announced the third best kingdom in the whole of London. Even with the unfortunate event that happened a few weeks back which caused the king of Havon to disown his only daughter, she still came out as the third-best kingdom in London.

Havon is well known and respected for her integrity, strength, and honesty—"

I sighed as I refused to continue to look. I bowed my head to my plate of food. This was one of the reasons Father wanted me to get married. He wanted to show off his kingdom and that meditative would have made him come out the first in the whole of London.

It was my action of running away that had pulled him to rank three instead of first. He should hate me by now.

I tried to shut my ears to what was said on the TV but I couldn't anymore when I heard my father's voice,

"I am honored, I would personally like to thank the whole of London for always appreciating the Havon kingdom highly as it should be. We had always stood out second but some circumstances had pushed us to the third position this time but it is well accepted and appreciated"

The interviewer smiled and the audience clapped, then he asked,

"I am sorry about your daughter. It was all over the news. Do you plan to accept her back? I mean, she is your only daughter,"

"I do not have a daughter," Father said so firmly that my heart broke. Staring at my food, tears rolled down my cheeks.

Closing my eyes, I opened them again with determination, I quickly finished my food before saying to them,

"I will go to my room now. I still have about two assignments to finish before I sleep. Tomorrow is a new day"

I was in a hurry to leave for work from school, there was no time to work on my assignment at the restaurant so I have to do that now.

"Ah ah," May smiled before wiggling her brows, "I heard there is a new hot professor in school, I'm so excited”

I sighed as I headed up… May hardly swoon over men, who was she talking about?

“I'm talking to you, Wendy,” she shouted playfully and began to follow me.

“I'm not interested in men's talk baby, I have so many bills to take care of and no man would do that for me freely” I muttered, rolling my eyes.
