Edric's POV:
Finding Maya’s parents are easy. The day after they kicked her out, they reported her as missing – no doubt to cover their own asses. They even made a passionate plea on the news, begging Maya to come home. Their *Bring Maya Home* social media pages are still active, and they even post to them regularly.
The last one, dated two days ago, states that they haven’t given up hope, and know that Maya is out there somewhere, followed by a donation link where people can contribute financially to the “search.” Not only did those disingenuous bastards kick their daughter out of the house, they’re profiting from it. I wonder if Maya knows. Goddess, I hope not.
I make a note of their location. I’ll put a private investigator on them tomorrow. Maya doesn’t need to know, and she doesn’t have to come with me when I go there to rip them a collective pair of new assholes. I wouldn’t bother, but I need to know their heritage

I’m a bit dazed, feeling Edric throb inside me, the warmth of him filling me up from the inside, spilling through my entire being. Is it always this good? I doubt it. This must be a werewolf mate thing again – like those little bolts of electricity that shoots through me every time he touches me. Edric doesn’t move. He lies with his head turned away from me, his breathing ragged, biting into his fist while the thumb on his other hand caresses my jaw. The smell of his blood suddenly fills my nostrils. Okay, that’s new, until two days ago I wouldn’t have known the difference between his blood and mine. I push him off me, already missing his heavy body on mine, the way he fills me up. Obediently, he rolls off me and away. “What are you doing?” He growls. A deep, menacing sound. Well, crap, that can’t be good. And to my surprise, a low rumble burst out of my chest. Edric's POV: This is probably why everyone, my father included, warned me against having sex with my mate before I mark her. My wolf is out of control. The more I try to fight him, the harder he fights back – all so he can get to Maya and claim her. Apart from marking her, the only option I have left is to run it out of our system…I think. I hope. I definitely can’t do anything with Maya again until after the ceremony. If I weren’t an Alpha, I could just mark her and get it over with, but I don’t have that luxury. I shift as soon as I’m far enough from the house, leaving my clothes in a pile behind a tree. I give my wolf equal control. He needs it. We run as fast as we can, trees flashing by us in a blur, twisting and turning through our territory, dodging when we catch other wolves’ scents, soaring over fallen trees and ducking through the undergrowth. Agony. That is all. I have become one with the pain. It clouds everything. It was a little better, easier, when Edric was here lying next to me. Now that he’s gone, there’s just pain. Edric's POV: My poor mate. She looks like something that had been left out in the summer sun to roast alive. Her whole body, from her hairline to the soles of her feet, is red. Blisters and scabs cover her from head to toe. Not one part of her has been spared. I can’t find one patch of clear skin. Silver leaves scars. I expected some scarring, but nothing like this. It doesn’t matter to me what she looks like, but what will this do to her health? If she looks like this on the outside, what kind of damage did the silver do to her insides? I don’t move.
