Chapter 1

Ava’s POV

“There are hot breeds in California, Ava. You needed to see how beautiful this guy was. The moment he entered the café, the whole atmosphere changed. His masculinity filled the room. He was giving off the ‘werewolf vibe’. I mean, he looked so hot in his casual jeans and baggy top. His hair was sleek and neat that I felt like running my hands through it. His eyeballs were intriguing. And his face was perfected by his plumb lips that made his boxy smile looked so seductive when he smiled. His voice was so deep and soothing as he talked to me. Ava, I think I’m in love!”

I rolled my eyes as I listened to Jasmine’s continuous rant about her newfound crush. Typical Jasmine! She always falls for any guy with a fine face. I have listened to stories such as these numerous times that I have lost interest in knowing how things ended between her and her so-called hot breed.

“Enough with this your werewolves sham. This is the 21st century. We are not characters in a fairytale. There is nothing like werewolves.”

I said to her tiredly. I just couldn’t listen to her werewolf superstition any longer. Jasmine always loved to gush about how there could be werewolves around us ever since she read a book about them.

“This guy is too hot to be human, Ava. Only werewolf males can be as beautiful as that!” She replied as if she couldn’t be more wrong.

“You are talking as if you have met one of them before,” I said with an eye roll.

“I wish I get to meet them. And I wish I can get married to one of them one day. Waking up for the rest of my life beside such eye candy is an eternal blessing.”

Jasmine said gushingly and this made me roll my eyes again. I knew arguing with her would get me nowhere, so I just asked her to continue her lovely encounter for the day. I knew Jasmine would never let me truly rest until she told me all the gist that happened in her café.

“So, did he ask for your number?” I asked uninterestedly.

“No, he didn’t. I was so disappointed. I wish we will meet again, but I don’t know how to locate him. I didn’t even get to know his name.”

Jasmine said with dramatic sadness, all the more reasons for me to roll my eyes again.

“You know, if you continue rolling your eyes at everything I say like that, I guarantee you that they will pop out of your skull.” She told me sarcastically.

Of course, she would notice. Jasmine was the only person that knew me so well. She was my best friend and partner in everything. We have been friends since we were sixteen. We met each other for the first time in high school and we just clicked. I fell in love with her personality and that was how we became inseparable.

I mean, who wouldn’t fall in love with Jasmine? Jasmine became my hero ever since the first day I met her. I was such a shy girl in high school then, I was constantly bullied by the big girls in my classroom. I never knew how to defend or speak up for myself until everything changed the day my classroom got a new transfer student; Jasmine.

I would never forget her fearful roar as she punched her way through Jessica and her crew (the school bullies) just to defend me. It was so heroic and fascinating. She stood so proud in her ripped jeans and crop top as she cursed the hell out of Jessica and her friends. Ever since then, I knew Jasmine was my soulmate.

Jasmine was the only person that defended me from bullies in school, and it happened on her first day. She wasn’t scared of being the school outcast by defending someone like me who was considered the outcast of my classroom.

Jasmine taught me self-confidence and I’d always be grateful for that. We became friends and I learned to be fearless from her. We got so close that we would always be seen together in the school.

The only thing I never got to understand about Jasmine was how she always found it so easy to fall in love with several guys. Jasmine was a hopeless romantic! She loved flirting with any guy that has beautiful facial features. Nothing else mattered to her as long as she could get her romantic Prince Charming who kept on changing every month.

“Are you even listening to me?” I was brought out of my thoughts by Jasmine’s loud voice.

“I’m with you, Jas. Do I even need to ask about what happened between you and Collins? The last time I checked, Collins was your recent boyfriend.” I said to her with a smirk.

“You are making me look like a bad girl, Ava. I’m a good girl. I just have a little experience in how to find the best guys out there.” Jasmine said jokingly.

“Yeah, right!”

“But seriously Jas. I really tried to keep my relationship with Collins, but we just lost that connection. You know?”

“How would I? I have never dated Collins before.”

“Collins my foot. Have you ever dated any guy before in your life?” Jasmine said jokingly with an eye roll.

“I’m not like you, Jas. I don’t need a man, especially not all the douchebags that are in town right now. They will just toy with your feelings. I got to know this from your past relationships.”

“You are so boring!” She said exasperatingly.

“I know! You remind me of that fact every day.” I said with a smirk as I attempted to stand up from the couch, but I was stopped by Jasmine again.

“Where are you going? I am not done with my story!”

What was I even thinking? I knew Jasmine would never let me rest until she told me every detail of her juicy encounter. I sighed tiredly as I sat back down on the couch.

“Can you just jump to the conclusion? I really don’t need all the details you were talking about. So what happened?”

“I need to meet this guy again. But I don’t know how. What should I do? I really think he is the right one for me.” Jasmine said dramatically.

“Huh, I’ve heard that a million times,” I said under my breath with another eye roll.

“I heard that!”

“Sorry!” I said with a laugh before I continued.

“But can you blame me? All your past boyfriends were always ‘the one for you’ when you met them!”

“That’s not the point right now, Ava. I need your smart brain. I want to meet this guy again.” She cried dramatically.

“Okay, okay! What do you want me to do? You said you didn’t remember to ask about his name. What were the other things he told you about himself when you guys talked? Maybe you can use that information to locate him.” I suggested.

“We didn’t have any serious conversation like that.”

“What do you mean? I thought you said you talked. Didn’t you?” I asked again.

“Not that kind of conversation, Ava. The ‘talking’ I was talking about was when he ordered his coffee.”

Jasmine said with her signature weird smile and this made me facepalm myself mentally. She always had that smile on her face whenever she knew she did something unfathomable.

“Really, Jasmine? You stopped me from going to bed after a very long and stressful day at work just to tell me about your love for a guy you didn’t have a conversation with? Really? I can’t deal with you right now. I am going to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow.”

I told her frustratedly as I made my way to the room. Jasmine would never cease to amaze me with her unpredictable attitude.

“Hey, Ava! Are you truly leaving me here? Seriously? You know I am just trying to help you. Every one of my relationships is just to help you gain insight into how to find the right guy for you. If you help me, you are helping yourself. You really need a man in your life.” She screamed playfully behind me.

“As if!”

I said jokingly as I locked my room’s door behind me. I really did not have the time to think about any man at the moment. All I could just think about was how to shower and get some good sleep on my fluffy mattress.
