Chapter 52

Alana’s POV

I picked at my breakfast – although it was more like brunch now –, feeling melancholy about the events of the morning.

I didn't even know what to think anymore.

I just felt confused, worried and lost all at the same time.

I sighed for the upteenth time, piercing a piece of pancake once again.

An urgent knock sounded on my door, startling me.

“Who is it?”

“M– miss Alana? Please the prince requests your presence at once!” The maid sounded scared.

I pushed my tray aside and jumped off my bed, yanking my door open.

“Is everything okay?”

Her eyes darted around furtively and I noticed her trembling.

“Yes. But the prince has requested your presence. He is in the bar downstairs.”

My brow furrowed. Alaric wasn't the tyrannical type, why was the girl looking like someone that'd been threatened? I mused.

“I'm not going unless you tell me what's going on.” I stated tactically.

The lady's eyes widened.

“Oh please! You have to go!”

I stood my ground and quirked an eyebrow at her.
