Out of the Darkness

“Ume, wake up!” The voice forcing its way into my head wasn’t Lasaya but it was familiar, and seemed so far away.

“Focus on her voice, Ume.” This time it was Lasaya and she sounded right beside me. I nodded in my head to Lasaya and tried to follow the familiar voice back to the surface of my mind. How long had I been drowning in the darkness?

“You’ve been asleep for like two weeks, get up.” A different but still familiar voice drew my attention and I followed it. I could feel Lasaya pushing me toward the voices outside. I couldn’t remember what happened. Why was it dark? Why have I been sleeping for two weeks? I missed Halloween?

Lasaya gave me a strong push forward. “It will all come back to you when you wake up, just keep going, Ume.” I listened to Lasaya and pushed forward into the light. I didn’t feel scared, or in any pain, just curious and a little lost.
