FIFTY THREE - CHRIS

Following my drop-off of Avery at her school, I made my way to work.

On the other hand, as I got closer to the location, I became aware of the fact that I just was unable to remove Kaili from my thoughts. I wanted to express my gratitude to her for the many ways in which she had helped to look after Avery the previous day. I was unable to do so the night before, and I could hardly contain my excitement as the end of my workday approached this evening.

To my good fortune, work was significantly slower than expected, and I was able to clock out earlier than expected. The trip back to my residence was unremarkable, with the exception of the fact that I bought Kaili a bouquet of flowers at a florist shop that I visited en route to my residence.

When I pulled into the driveway and turned off the car, I noticed that there was no movement coming from within the home. This caused an odd feeling of concern and protectiveness to arise inside me.
