Chapter 31

Liam, Axel, and I trudge up the stairs to our room and push the door open. The musty smell of the room is pungent and I crinkle my nose, surveying the rest of the room. Torn yellow quilts adorn the lopsided beds, and discolored wallpaper peels from the wall.

“Well, this is a fancy joint.” Liam snarks.

He helps Axel down onto the bed and removes his chains. I stare at Liam like he has gone crazy. When he notices me, he rolls his eyes.

“This is a broken man. He isn’t going anywhere because he knows it would be the end for his pack and the only other person he cares about is in the room twisting the knife deeper into his back.” He explains.

I nod as I try to keep my tears at bay. Trying to say anything would cause me to sob with guilt and hatred for myself. I am grateful that Liam seems to do his best to treat Axel well. Liam stands and tosses the chains to a corner. He then pulls his leather gloves off one by one.
