Chapter 48

Mildred POV

The morning came mercilessly, disregarding the fact that I wanted to stay here just a little bit longer.

I watched as the morning light poured into my bedroom. This was probably the last time I will see this. The next time the sun will rise I will be under another roof living another life..a life without Arnold.

I placed a hand on my trembling chest, then it dropped down to where my baby was growing. The poor little being would only know stories about their father and nothing else.

Just thinking about it made me heartbroken, so I shut off those thoughts tucking them away in the corner of my mind as I began to look through the luggage that I had packed. It wasn't much so it only stole a few minutes of my time before I began my morning routine.

I was now dressed comfortably and my hair was in a messy bun, and this was when I heard knocking on my door my fingers reached out for the doorknob and allowed the wooden frame to ease back a few inches staring at the person on the ot
