Max stood alone in the council room, hands behind his back. His eyes were riveted on the chair designated for the Alpha.

His father, Alpha Rex, had sat on the throne, and he was expected to be the one to take it over.

But he wasn't as strong as his step-brother, Creed, who had taken over as the pack's new Alpha and was running things efficiently.

If only he could enlist the help of Creed's most faithful subordinate, Lucas, the gamma of the pack. He pondered.

Lucas was his father's most devoted servant, and after his father died, Lucas passed on his devotion to Creed

Max was aware that Lucas was assisting Creed in learning how to govern the pack, but Lucas refused to commit his loyalties to anybody until he was certain that the Alpha was dead.

Lucas had been quiet in the pack since the pandemonium and the witches took Alpha Creed away for healing, and nothing truly interested him as long as the Alpha was gone.
