"W-Werewolf?" I repeated, and then looked at Seniorito who was now unconscious.
"Yeah, you heard it right. We are werewolves," the guy confirmed clearly.
We? All of them!
I unknowingly swallowed and looked at him. "You mean... that dog? Is that so?"
His face immediately went bad. "Excuse me, we are not dogs!"
"It's the same. You are still barking the same awoo awoo!" I answered back.
He palmed his head and shook it unbelievingly. "It's different. Stop calling us dogs, lady. We're greater than them."
"High breed dogs?" I know he'll be annoyed by what I said, but that's probably the only way I could reduce the creeps I'm feeling right now.
"Damn. If you hadn't just treated me earlier, I might have bitten you."
I was stunned and gulped slowly. I hesitated to laugh and then took a step away. I might cut his patience if I continued.
"As for you, don't be silly," I said.
"Aren't you scared, Raya?" Manang interrupted.
They were both silently watching me now, waiting for my answer. I let out a sigh before staring at what they called Alpha.
"I'm scared," I admitted.
"Do you want to leave?" Manang, while looking at me full of understanding.
I made a nod. "I want to, but... I also need a job," I said and smiled sparingly at the old woman. "I just want to be be sure, I'm not... going to die here, am I?"
"As long as you don't approach Alpha during the times when he's not on his own self, you'll be safe," Manang instructed.
For the nth time, I swallowed hard. "I understand."
"Come on, I'll explain everything to you. I know you're confused right now," Manang said with a smile on her lips.
She was the first to walk out of the room. The man with us followed her while I stared for a moment at the Alpha they called.
I could not understand myself. Yes, I was terrified. All of this was not normal for me. But despite that, I wanted to stay. Not just for the wages, but because of this man as well.
"Raya?" Manang called outside the door.
I smiled sparingly and then finally followed them.
We gathered in the living room again. I know they are waiting for me to get adjusted so they can start sharing their story, but of course, I'll never be ready for it. I wanted to pinch myself, thinking that I was just dreaming.
"Why is Seniorito not like his usual self?" I was the one to break the silence.
Manang and the man looked at each other and then looked at me seriously.
"First of all, I want to introduce you to Miro. The youngest son of the Zarelli's, the beta," Manang began.
Confused, I still tried to embed it in my brain.
"Of our werewolves, Cleon is the Alpha, Miro is the Beta, and I belong to the Omegas," she continued.
"Ahmm... is that a ranking?" I couldn't stop myself but asked.
"Yep. Alpha is the pack leader, me — the beta — is the second in command, omega is the lowest rank," Miro answered my question.
I just nodded. I can't deny the fact that I am amazed by their rankings.
"And you are the chosen mate," he added.
My forehead furrowed. "Mate?" I uttered. "Why am I involved?" My eyes dilated in shock.
I'm human, hello?
"I also don't know why it has to be you," he lazily replied to me.
Is that a joke?
"It's been six years since Cleon's first mate died in an accident. That was also the day when she rejected the Alpha," Manang snatched my attention.
There, I became serious again.
"Male werewolves have a single mate set by the Moon Goddess. They become mateless when their partner rejects them or so when they die."
I winced. "So, they are not allowed to be broken-hearted?"
"They can, but it's not a good thing," he replied.
"Why? They are not allowed to be single?"
I heard a whimper from Miro. It was as if he was losing hope that I could understand everything. Manang scolded him; instructing.
The lady gave me a miserly smile. "Because it could kill them, or like Cleon, his inner wolf is greatly affected."
I blinked twice and processed everything. "You mean, crazy?"
"If that's what you want to believe from what you saw earlier, maybe. But in Cleon's situation, he can no longer control his inner wolf."
Slowly, my lips parted.
That means he's arguing with his second persona.
"His mate rejected him for a human. For us, werewolves, our mate is our soulmate — the other half of us. So when Zhen rejected him, it caused a problem with his inner wolf. Luckily, he didn't die." That's Miro.
I still could not speak. I was just thinking about the consequences of rejecting them, it was already too heavy on my chest. People are lucky because they can still go with one human to another.
"Wait, didn't you say soulmate? So his mate can love him too. Why did she reject the Alpha?"
Miro nodded. "If you were to choose, as a mortal, who would you want to be with? A werewolf or a human?"
I was silent to his question. I got what he wanted to convey. Suddenly, what he said earlier came back to my mind.
"Y-You said... he picked me. Does that mean..." I unconsciously gulped. "I can't refuse him?"
He couldn't answer me. Yet the tension on his jaw did not escape my sight; objecting to a decision I could possibly make.
"It's rare for werewolves to have a second mate," Manang said. "You could be a second mate or a chosen mate—Cleon chose for himself."
My jaw dropped at her last statement. "Me? Chosen?" I was pointing to myself. "I'm human!"
Manang just smiled at what I said. "Anyone can be a match for a werewolf. Depends on what the Moon Goddess has set for them."
I couldn't help but faint and leaned back on the sofa. It's not happening yet but my chest was already heavy thinking about the possibilities. A werewolf? For me?
Their Goddess is going crazy.
From the very beginning, it was a mortal who hurt Cleon. A human like me put him in that situation. So why, for the second time, did she give another human destined for him?
"Did Seniorito betray our country in his past life?" not in my usual self, I said.
Manang shook his head at what I said. I don't know if she's laughing or running out of patience with me. "Now that you know us, I will introduce you to the Gammas," she stated. "Do we really have to?" Miro interrupted. Manang heaved a deep breath and looked at him sternly. "You heard the Alpha. He may have chosen Raya or she's a second mate." "We are still not sure about that. She's a human! The lowest creature for Pete's sake," Miro hissed. "Hello? I was right in front of you, I can hear you," I said sarcastically. I am the lowest thing for a creature like him just because he is a high breed dog. Tss! "Beta, I know you're wondering why the servant I hired was a mortal. We have to take care of Alpha's secret, our family could be ruined if another werewolf finds out about his condition." Although I'm confused by Manang's words, I couldn't avoid being proud in front of the guy she called beta. "Alright, let them out," Manang added. Miro could not do anything but leave the house
Even though it's well past midnight, I'm still up. I'm just contemplating stuff that I don't even know how to comprehend while gazing up at the ceiling. It's absurd. After a while, when I still didn't feel asleep, I made the decision to step outside for some fresh air. I held the cup of tea while leaning my elbow on the verandah sill to survey the area. 'They're here, right?' I sighed and then took a sip carefully from the cup in my hand. I sensed a presence later. I could see his figure out of the corner of my eye even when I'm not looking at him. The beta. "Still thinking about us, lady?" he asked; I don't know if it was a good approach or not. He went to my side and imitated my position. "Is it true?" I wondered while not looking at him. "Is it true that I'm the mate of your alpha?" I heard him scoff. "Why? Are you thinking about how to reject him?" I didn't answer right away. I drank some tea again before looking at him for a moment. "I just don't understand. How did I be
Even though I fell asleep early, I still woke up early the next morning. As I always do; I cleaned the house and cooked breakfast. If it used to be Manang who prepared Seniorito's food, now, I voluntarily arranged it on a tray. Manang entered the kitchen just as I finished. "Oh, Raya. You wake up early?" she commented and looked at the food I prepared. I saw her expression soften before she focused her gaze on me again. "I'll take it upstairs." I just nodded, even though I wanted to wince. She's the only one who can go upstairs, right? Manang approached me and carefully took the tray of food. She examined it for a moment before turning to me and smiling. "Thank you, hija," she said. I hesitated to smile back and scratched the back of my neck. "It's okay, this is my job." "Thank you anyway," she insisted, then patted my shoulder. She was about to walk away when I couldn't help but ask. "Manang . . ." I called. She immediately looked at me. "Hmmm?" "I am only wondering how yo
I was delighted and amazed previously, but now I'm anxious. Not because of the large school or my wealthy classmates, but rather because I felt like someone was keeping an eye on me. I looked all around, but no one was there. There are students who occasionally gaze at me, but it's not them who are giving me the uncomfortable feeling. Weird. "This will be your room," the gamma I was with informed me. I automatically looked around the room. I snorted when I noticed that they had their own world. Some are talking, some are sleeping, and some are studying. I want to laugh because I could not imagine that other awoo awoos are really modern now. I couldn't even tell which of them was my mortal likeness. In fairness, they also want a diploma. Come to think of it, does awoo awoos also need a college degree to become a waitress/waiter? That's how it is with us mortals. Just by searching for a dishwasher, they need a degree holder. Like, hello? What course is that? Bachelor of Arts in Bubb
"Do you really think you can escape from me?" I suddenly found myself cornered against a big tree. The scene happened in a flash. How he effortlessly chased and pinned me. I dropped my phone and my eyes widened, looking at the man in front of me. "S-Señorito . . ." I stuttered, calling his name; hoping he would come back to his senses. I caught my breath when he brought his face close to the side of my ear. I could feel every breath he let out. My knees wobbled when his tongue slowly licked my skin. Even though I didn't mean it, my hands dropped on his chest. "Your skin tastes different," he whispered. Then his nose trailed down to my jaw; he was sniffing my scent. "Señorito," I said when I felt his face on my neck. My grip on his chest got tighter. I am more and more weak with fear. My vision was getting dark and I was almost out of breath. The scene from earlier came back to my mind again and again, how he kissed the girl until he bit her. I felt him open his mouth. Even his f
Out of all the food I made, this one was the most careful. I am not sure if it's because of the several werewolves around me or the fact that Señorito was dining with me for the first time. It's like I suddenly became careful not to make a mistake."Are you alright, hija?" Manang was curious.I hardly swallowed the food in my mouth and then nodded. I noticed Senyorito staring at me but I never dared to look back at him. Manang gave me a small smile while Miro who was in front of me had a suppressed laugh. This freakin' dog."How about you, are you okay?" Miro asked their Alpha.I simply looked at Senyorito from the corner of my eye. He sighed before slowly putting down the cutlery he was holding. He rested his elbows on the table and looked at Miro seriously."As of now, I am. But unlike before, I don't know when I will lose control of my body again," he replied.Miro nodded. "They are looking for you," he said. "Can you handle it now for even a few minutes?" he added.I absentmindedl
Every heartbeat in my chest is powerful. In just a few minutes, the expected guests will arrive at the mansion. I almost went crazy with the possible scenes that could happen during their meeting."You should calm down," said Miro from my side, perhaps noticing my anxiety.I rolled my eyes. Yes, they assured me that they wouldn't leave me with Seniorito, but what if their guests get mad?If they bite, I will lose. What could my even teeth do against their sharp fangs, anyway?"Go to your room."My thoughts were interrupted when Seniorito came to the living room, where Miro and I were. Manang was busy in the kitchen preparing; she didn't ask me to help anymore because she said she could handle it alone, and I didn't bother anymore. Later, I might see blood there; I will run in no time.I suddenly raised my eyes to Seniorito, who had a serious look at me. "Yes?""Go to your bedroom. Then go out after the meeting," he clarified."Alpha—" Miro's defiant call was cut off when Seniorito tu
Even though I remained hidden in Seniorito's chest, I could feel everyone's tension. Little by little, my chest was filled with shame and worry. I don't know how to get away from him now. If I really wanted to be far away, his arm around my waist sent butterflies into my stomach. His scent gave me comfort. The reason why I don't want to distance myself.A chuckle brought me back into reality. "I don't think it is proper to treat your maid like that," said the mysterious man named Konnor. It was like I was hit there, so I automatically pulled away. I noticed the woman who was in the meeting standing up from her seat and staring at me. The Epsilon elders are quiet, but I can feel the weight in their eyes. I swallowed nothing myself. Is this it? Am I going to be the dinner of these awoo awoo?"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hug," I said. "I was just scared; I'm not used to being approached by people like you," I explained to Cleon's colleagues.I can't look at Seniorito. Now I am completely
